As Lin Aishi finished her shift as a hotel dancer and headed home, the rain poured down heavily outside. She held an umbrella over her head, walking towards her house, the cold raindrops extinguishing her restless emotions.
Passing by the park outside her community, Lin Aishi was drawn to a curled figure on a bench. She approached and gently nudged the person.
The man lazily opened his eyes, saw a stranger, and promptly closed them again.
Lin Aishi sighed, "My home is just nearby. Do you want to come back with me for the night?"
The man remained silent, so she continued, "You’ll die out here in the rain!"
The young man lifted his gaze, looking at her in confusion before getting up to follow her home.
Lin Aishi urged him to take a shower and even prepared some old clothes for him. Once he was cleaned up, he appeared handsome and exuded an extraordinary charm.
An Ruochen felt uneasy under her gaze and suspiciously asked, "Why did you let me in? Aren't you afraid I’m a bad person?"
Lin Aishi withdrew her eyes, clutching a can of beer as she curled up in the corner of the sofa. "Did you run away from home?"
"I did not!" An Ruochen replied angrily. "Don’t treat me like a child; I’m already twenty."
"Being an adult means you can drink, right?" She tossed him a can of beer. "Kid, what’s your name?"
“An Ruochen. I’m not a little ghost!”
“If you’re not a little ghost, then don’t run away from home!” Lin Aishi scolded him, amused by the defiance on his face.
The smile on Lin Aishi's face vanished in an instant.
An Ruochen reminded her of herself three years ago, wandering alone in the rain with nowhere to go. If she hadn’t been taken to the hospital at dawn, she might have perished that night. After recovering from her illness, she had resolved to change her life.
“Three years ago, there was someone just like you… but she was abandoned.”
Perhaps she was drunk; it was the first time she had shared such old memories with anyone.
Lin Aishi's eyes turned red as she chuckled softly, “But she deserved it. She was vain and forgetful of her loyalties, helping strangers give birth for money, and in the end, she couldn’t bear to part with that child…”
“She was scorned and driven away, nearly dying from illness. She became infamous; she deserved it…”
Lin Aishi raised her glass, hiding the heat in her eyes. “An Xiaogui, never do anything you’ll regret.”
Don’t be like her, wishing she could kill her former self out of regret.
An Ruochen looked at her in confusion; sometimes she acted like a queen, other times she seemed utterly fragile. She was so contradictory!
An Ruochen asked, “Who was that man?”
“Zi Dingqian.”
Lin Aishi was jolted awake by the phone. Groggily, she picked up the receiver, and Rita's voice from the agency blasted through like a bomb: “Aishi, what were you thinking? Why didn’t you inform the company about such an important matter?!”
“What’s going on?” Lin Aishi rubbed her aching head.
“You're making headlines!” Rita exclaimed excitedly. “Turn on the TV right now; the little king is talking about you!”
Lin Aishi was bewildered. She was just a third-rate star; she didn’t know any kings.
She switched on the TV to the entertainment channel, and there it was, coverage of the popular little king’s new album launch event. The person in question was An Ruochen.
This morning, several major newspapers had headlines proclaiming that the rising star An Ruochen had spent the night at a third-rate star's home.
Of course, no one would miss the press conference this morning featuring An Ruochen. What surprised everyone was how cooperative he was, completely ignoring his manager’s grim expression: “Shishi and I are in a relationship.”
An Ruochen smiled brightly as he said, “I fell for her at first sight. Our relationship is stable now, and I hope to receive everyone’s blessings.”
Lin Aishi felt overwhelmed. How was she supposed to know that the handsome young man she kindly took in would turn out to be a rising king? And he spoke so presumptuously!
