Chapter Six
A chill ran through me as I activated my Invisibility Skill, only to realize that I could still be detected.
Could this guy have some special detection ability?
"Who's there?"
The man's voice rang out again, tinged with impatience.
I held my breath, remaining completely still as I contemplated my next move.
Suddenly, the voice of System X echoed in my mind, "Target detected using Energy Detection skill. Your Invisibility Skill is about to fail."
Just as I suspected; this guy had the ability to sense energy fluctuations.
My Invisibility Skill worked by distorting my own energy waves, so if he could detect those fluctuations, he would naturally be able to find me.
"Come out!"
The man barked again, his tone now laced with anger.
I knew I couldn't hide any longer. If my Invisibility Skill failed, I would be completely exposed.
Taking a deep breath, I slowly revealed myself.
The man stared at me in surprise for a moment before a look of astonishment crossed his face. "Who are you?"
"Just passing by," I replied flatly, while remaining on guard for any sudden movements.
"Passing by?"
He clearly didn't believe me. "Why are you here?"
"That's none of your business," I said coldly. "I just wanted to take a look inside."
"Take a look inside?"
The man sneered coldly, "Do you think this is just any place? You think you can come and go as you please?"
"Why can't I enter?" I retorted.
"This isn't your home," he replied.
"Kid, you're quite arrogant," he said, a glint of coldness flashing in his eyes. "Do you know who I am?"
"I don't care who you are," I said dismissively. "Even if you're the Heavenly King Lao Zi, you won't stop me."
"What a bold claim!" The man laughed in anger. "Since you refuse to drink the wine offered to you and choose the punishment instead, don't blame me for being rude!"
As soon as he finished speaking, he lunged at me.
I was already on guard; I sidestepped his attack and threw a punch that landed squarely in his abdomen.
He let out a muffled grunt and staggered back a few steps.
"You..." He clutched his stomach, shock filling his eyes.
Clearly, he hadn't expected me to be this strong.
I didn't give him a chance to catch his breath. I charged forward again, raining down punches and kicks like a storm.
Although the man had some skills, he quickly found himself at a disadvantage under my relentless assault.
"Stop!" A woman nearby shouted urgently.
I ignored her and continued to attack the man.
"If you don't stop, I'll..."
The woman threatened.
"What will you do?"
I asked without turning my head, kicking the man away with a swift motion.
"I'll kill her!"
The woman pointed at the unconscious girl not far away.
A chill ran down my spine, and I quickly halted my actions.
What was going on? How did I not notice that girl lying there unconscious just moments ago?
I never expected her to use that girl as leverage against me.
"You dare!"
I glared at the woman, my eyes filled with murderous intent.
"Try me and you'll find out."
The woman sneered, producing a dagger and pressing it against the girl's neck.
Panic surged within me; I was at a loss for what to do.
"System, is there any way to save her?"
I asked urgently.
"Detected that the target possesses a special item: 'Energy Shielding Device,' which can block energy fluctuations, rendering them undetectable."
System X replied.
"'Energy Shielding Device'?"
I felt a surge of determination and quickly asked, "Where can I find it?"
"In the target's backpack," System X replied.
A wave of excitement washed over me as I turned my gaze toward the backpack lying on the ground beside the man.
"What are you trying to do?"
The woman noticed my intention and asked warily.
"Nothing," I said, forcing myself to sound calm as I slowly approached the backpack.
"Don't come any closer!"
The woman threatened again.
Ignoring her warning, I continued to move toward the backpack.
Just as I was about to reach for it, the woman suddenly struck, her dagger aimed at the girl.
My heart raced in alarm, and I quickly activated my teleportation skill, appearing beside the girl and pulling her into my arms.
The dagger plunged into my back.
I let out a muffled groan as a wave of excruciating pain coursed through me.
