Shmily: A Slow-Paced Fanfic 5: When I Let You Go

Recently, Yun Li has developed a habit of taking a photo of the sky every day and posting it on his secondary account, Shmily, along with some of his favorite captions. 0

Sometimes, it’s a clear blue sky as vibrant as a gemstone, accompanied by the words: "I like you just as I like the sky. Clumsy is you, handsome is you, stubborn is you, gentle is you, pretending to know nothing is also you, and what I like is simply you." 0

Other times, it’s a colorful sunset painting the heavens, with the caption: "In the morning I watch the sky, in the evening I watch the clouds; whether walking or sitting, I think of you." 0

Occasionally, it’s a gloomy scene filled with dark clouds, reflecting: "On cloudy days, the dark clouds hide in a corner, secretly feeling wronged." 0

One day, Zeus was browsing fan creations on his secondary account when he stumbled upon Shmily. He was captivated by the sky photos posted on this account; the pure blue and free white clouds stirred a longing within him. So he decided to follow this account. 0

He liked the latest photo posted there, which appeared to be taken from a high building. In the midst of the azure sky was a contrail cutting across it, leaving its mark before fading away. The accompanying caption read: "Someone asked me why I always like to photograph the sky. I said blue is pure and uniquely his color; white clouds represent freedom and are my exclusive symbol; the sky represents yearning..." 0

Days flowed by slowly in the wheel of time. However, Zeus recently discovered something coincidental that left him feeling incredulous. 0

It turned out that Shmily was a fan of his main account. Although this fan rarely spoke in his live streams, they would occasionally send him private messages filled with concern—reminding him to drink more water if he coughed or to eat on time. He would sometimes reply to express gratitude for this fan's care. 0

What raised his suspicion was that this account was originally based in Hangzhou. While that alone wasn’t unusual, Yun Li had recently traveled to Shanghai, and suddenly this account's IP address showed it was in Shanghai too. It could just be coincidence—perhaps their sister was on a business trip there! 0

However, beyond that detail, the emotional content posted often mirrored Yun Li's state during his live streams almost perfectly. 0

For instance, when Yun Li appeared tired and downcast during one live session, that same day Shmily posted: "It’s not that I don’t care; it’s just that caring doesn’t change anything." 0

This made Zeus suspicious but he lacked a definitive clue to confirm his thoughts. 0

One day, Shmily released a piece of work, promoting a new song by the five-member group. It was not something an outsider could access, let alone be able to publish something so quickly. The voice in the piece was unmistakably that of Yun Li; he would never mistake it. The work disappeared in less than thirty seconds. 0

Less than a minute later, the same piece was posted on Yun Li's main account, featuring an identical video and caption. The previous account had deleted the post so quickly that no one noticed, but Zeus, suspicious as he was, would check immediately whenever this account published something. 0

Zeus finally confirmed that the account named Shmily belonged to Yun Li. His emotions were a tumultuous mix of surprise, heartache, and an indescribable sense of guilt. 0

He began to carefully scroll through every piece of content that Yun Li had posted on this small account. The photos of the sky and the heartfelt yet slightly melancholic words seemed like unspoken love letters and cries from deep within Yun Li's heart. 0

Particularly striking was the post that read: "Actually, it never really started; what is there to regret?" 0

When Zeus saw this post, he felt as if time had frozen around him. His gaze was fixed on those words, his heart a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. 0

"Yes, what is there to regret?" Zeus thought, filled with turmoil. "I pushed him away deliberately because I was afraid that external pressures would hurt him. But seeing those words on his small account feels like a white cloud that could vanish at any moment—something I can never see or reach again. Why does it feel so unbearable?" 0

Especially after seeing the recent fan creations—Yun Li had only been gone for a few days, yet it seemed like eight hundred entanglements had sprung up. How did they end up with a four-person version of 'Burning Winter'? 0

"What kind of double room are you talking about? That won't do! It's much more suitable for one person to have their own room!" 0
"What do you mean the experience wasn't good? What nonsense! One dares to say it while another dares to respond! Hmph!" 0
"You know it's all just noise, yet you still jump into the pit." 0
"Why are we even talking about body shapes?!" 0
"Looks like everyone is having such a great time~!" 0
"Yes, keep your distance—stay at least two meters away; no entry for strangers." 0

"Oh, I forgot what you like to drink, yet you still remember my taste. Tsk!" 0

Zeus was filled with confusion and jealousy, making him restless. In the end, he couldn't hold back and sent a message to Yun Li: "How have you been lately?" After sending it, he anxiously waited for a reply, his eyes constantly darting to the phone screen. 0

However, Yun Li was busy at that moment and didn't see the message right away. 0

After waiting for a long time without a response, Zeus grew increasingly anxious and began to overthink: "Is he deliberately ignoring me? Or is he with someone else and can't even bother to reply?" 0

Finally, after a while, Yun Li finished his tasks and saw the message. He replied, "Just busy, but I'm good. How about you?" 0

Seeing the reply eased Zeus's heart a bit, but he still pretended to be aloof and responded, "It's okay." 0

In the following days, Zeus couldn't help but send messages to Yun Li from time to time or find trivial excuses to chat for a few moments. Yun Li always replied earnestly, but Zeus kept his responses brief, maintaining his cool demeanor. 0

Gradually, Yun Li sensed something strange about Zeus and thought to himself: [What's going on with him? Why has he suddenly become so awkward? He feels so restless, as if he's in a Susceptible Period.] 0

One day, unable to contain his curiosity any longer, Yun Li asked, "Zeus, do you have something on your mind?" 0

Seeing this message made Zeus panic; he didn't know how to respond. After hesitating for a long time, he replied, "Nothing." 0

Yun Li looked at the simple reply and chuckled helplessly, deciding not to press further. 0

Meanwhile, Zeus regretted killing the conversation again but had no idea how to break the awkward silence. 0
