It all felt so natural, as if everything was falling into place. Zheng Mengni wondered what else she needed to do at this moment, feeling as though there was nothing left to accomplish.
Ye Bing pressed above her, leaving just enough space, careful not to cause her any discomfort. "Have you made up your mind?" His voice was gentle, completely devoid of any awkwardness that might come from being caught in a romantic situation. It was as if, should Zheng Mengni say no, he would immediately withdraw, refraining from doing anything that might hurt her.
Zheng Mengni smiled softly, her snow-white cheeks lighting up with a sweet grin. She playfully questioned him, "Is it that you don't want to, or are you just too afraid?"
Ye Bing remained silent, his dark eyes intense, like a deep lake reflecting the subtle ripples caused by Zheng Mengni's every move.
"You calling me Xiao Ye Ge doesn’t mean you really think of yourself as my brother," Zheng Mengni remarked.
"But we have no blood relation; it’s perfectly reasonable for us to engage in such feelings without it being illegal." She paused for a moment, locking her gaze onto Ye Bing's eyes. "Unless you don't love me or want this—then forcing you would be the only crime."
Ye Bing lowered his head, his lips brushing against hers, turning her words into fragmented whispers. He kissed her over and over again, each time drawing her in just a little more.
In the brief moments when they paused for breath, Ye Bing spoke softly yet firmly. "I don’t not love you. And I certainly don’t not want this. I’m only giving you the chance to change your mind."
The moment of contemplation had ended for Xiao Ni; she nodded. "I love you, and you must accept my love."
Zheng Mengni reached out to pull him closer. Tilting her head back, she took the initiative to connect their lips, capturing his soft tongue with hers.
"You seem a bit different from the Ye Bing of another world," she said.
Before she could finish her thought, Ye Bing lifted his head slightly. "What do you mean?"
Perhaps it was because she had suddenly arrived in this world that something had changed in the unseen depths of fate.
Zheng Mengni smiled sweetly. "You're so obedient."
She caught a glimpse of Ye Bing’s face turning even redder than before as he subtly tried to hide it from her view.
Zheng Mengni seemed to sense his embarrassment and kindly asked, "Should I turn off the lights? I just can't help but want to see."
Ye Bing's voice grew even softer, "No, you can look."
Zheng Mengni reached out and hugged his back, her fingers pressing against a scar. Perhaps it wasn't just a coincidence; he had endured many injuries in places she couldn't see, in moments she was unaware of.
Zheng Mengni understood how long Ye Bing had prepared for the opportunity tomorrow. She shouldn't have taken action to obstruct him for a dream or a strange voice. She knew all too well how unpleasant the taste of failure could be.
"Are you okay?" he paused to ask.
Zheng Mengni buried her face in the crook of his neck and remained silent.
Ye Bing felt a bit anxious. "Is it uncomfortable?"
Zheng Mengni still didn't respond.
Ye Bing patiently inquired, "What if I—am I okay?"
Zheng Mengni truly found herself laughing at him. Was it that her charm was lacking, or was Ye Bing simply too strong-willed?
In moments like this, he could really be so adorable.
Zheng Mengni took the initiative to hold him tighter, deciding to take charge herself.
Ye Bing nearly lost his composure; he let out a muffled sound, his dark eyes momentarily lost in thought.
Zheng Mengni lazily remarked, "You're so slow."
The feeling of not being acknowledged by the one he cared for made Ye Bing feel a sudden pang of insecurity. After all, he was just trying not to hurt her.
