Tan Yan entrusted himself to Zheng Mengni with complete purity, and naturally, he wanted to meet her again in the same manner. He would not tolerate any flaws within himself.
However, love can make a person selfish, sensitive, and even mad. Tan Yan had an intense possessiveness; he could not tolerate any intrusions in his heart.
Before demanding that Zheng Mengni belong entirely to him, he knew he had to set an example. He would lead by example, showing her that being devoted wholeheartedly was the right way.
Zheng Mengni was still young and it was normal for her not to understand these principles. He would not blame her for being indecisive. Tan Yan had enough patience, believing he could gradually change her perspective.
To accommodate one person was already overwhelming. To fit in another was impossible.
He softly whispered in his heart: Xiao Ni.
Just like before, would you only look at me? I can guarantee that I will be better than anyone else you encounter. So just look at me, and that will be enough.
The plane landed late at night, and the journey had been long. Zheng Mengni appeared somewhat dazed as she gazed out.
Guan Su Lin decided to take her to a hotel for the night and set off for the Guan Family residence in the morning. The driver responsible for their transport drove them to the most luxurious hotel in the area.
In the car, Guan Su Lin lightly tapped his fingers on his knee, his handsome profile hidden in the cold darkness. After a long silence, he called out, "Zheng Zheng."
Zheng Mengni turned her head slightly, staring at him intently. "What’s up?"
"This business can actually be wrapped up quite easily. You only need to do one thing; I’ll handle the rest," Guan Su Lin said.
Zheng Mengni asked softly, "What can I do for you?"
Suddenly, Guan Su Lin smiled, tilting his head slightly, a hint of untraceable emotion flickering in his deep eyes. "Pretend to be my girlfriend. Can you do that?"
Zheng Mengni gently curled her lips into a smile. "Are you serious, or is this a joke?"
"Very serious."
"I see," she replied.
Zheng Mengni agreed readily, which made Guan Su Lin more enthusiastic. He kept a close eye on her, carefully discerning her tone without revealing his thoughts. "Aren't you going to ask why? Aren't you afraid I'm lying?"
Zheng Mengni replied earnestly, "Well then, may I ask why you want me to do this, Guan?"
A hint of amusement sparkled in Guan Su Lin's eyes. He grinned playfully. "Zheng Zheng, can’t you see? It’s because I really like you."
Zheng Mengni lowered her head, feeling somewhat flustered. "Ah, but…"
He thought shamelessly about how adorable she was, like a little rabbit.
Guan Su Lin's gaze darkened slightly as he reassured her, "Don’t be nervous; I won’t put you in a difficult position. We’re just pretending—nothing serious."
He patiently explained that his father was very old and gravely ill with little hope left. His only wish was to see his youngest son with a companion before he passed away. If his father saw him with such a beautiful girlfriend, perhaps it would lift his spirits and extend his life a bit longer; who knows, it might even mean a larger share of the inheritance for him.
When the time comes, he can give her anything she desires.
Guan Su Lin pouted, "Zheng Zheng, please help me."
Zheng Mengni responded with seriousness. However, this was just one side of Guan Su Lin's words; the real reason was far more complicated than what he let on.
Zheng Mengni lowered her head even further, grateful for the dim light inside the car; otherwise, her ambitions and schemes would be hard to conceal.
She took a deep breath, feeling the tension in the air.
