At first, Guan Su Lin approached Zheng Mengni out of mere curiosity. Having never tasted the flavor of love, he randomly selected a lucky girl he had seen before and secretly activated a love experience card. However, it was mostly Guan Su Lin's one-sided interest, and over time, he found himself becoming a bit addicted.
Zheng Mengni was not the type to stick rigidly to her work; on the contrary, she employed every little trick she could think of to achieve her goals. This alone earned her Guan Su Lin's admiration. He merely set the bait for her to take the hook. Yet now, Guan Su Lin occasionally found himself wanting to treat her to a meal or two, thinking that making someone happy wasn’t such a bad idea after all.
When he invited Zheng Mengni out for dinner, they would chat about personal matters, and she always had a way of steering the conversation towards topics of cooperation and investment. The soft-spoken girl had a sweet tongue that could charm anyone. Guan Su Lin pretended not to notice her schemes. After all, no matter how big his appetite was, he was confident he could satisfy it.
Though he had never been in love before, he was born into the Guan family and had picked up a few tricks for wooing girls along the way. Patience and time were essential; he needed Zheng Mengni to see his sincerity.
During dinner, Zheng Yicheng casually asked, "Have you been in touch with Guan Su Lin lately?"
Zheng Mengni swallowed her food before nodding: "Yes."
After some consideration, Zheng Yicheng continued, "Your brother has a big deal on his hands that hasn’t progressed. There was an economic dispute with that company, and the other party is not easy to deal with. You should find some time to invite him out for a meal and help smooth things over."
Sun Yao was taken aback and immediately opposed: "He has the ability to handle this himself; why drag Xiao Ni into it?"
"Handling it is one thing; I care about efficiency. It’s been dragging on for so long without resolution."
Sun Yao advised him: "Your brother has been busy with work; how many times has he come home during this time? Not once? You keep holding onto this without letting go. As a father, why do you have such high expectations for your child?"
Zheng Yicheng remained unmoved: "If we don’t nurture him now, how can we trust him with the family business in the future?"
Zheng Mengni kept her head down as she ate, her composed demeanor showing no signs of disturbance. She slowly swallowed the delicate seafood porridge. It was a bit hot, but she didn’t react; her mind just lagged behind for a moment.
Hiss.
"Ugh."
Sun Yao's face was cold. "Then let's not bring it up. You're causing trouble for Xiao Ni. Do you know Guan Su Lin's background? You can't just let Xiao Ni invite him to dinner casually."
Zheng Yicheng noticed her displeasure and softened his tone, trying to reason with her. "This person is exceptionally talented, a rare genius. Having Xiao Ni work with him on business will only benefit her; she can learn a lot of useful things. Besides, the more she interacts with people like him, the better her path will be after graduation."
"I understand," Zheng Mengni replied, her eyes sparkling. She turned to reassure Sun Yao, "Mom, I've indeed been in touch with him a lot lately and have learned quite a bit. You can relax about this; after dinner, I'll set a time to talk to him."
After the meal, Zheng Mengni turned and went upstairs, her slender shoulders trembling slightly.
Her progress was already quite evident, but Zheng Yicheng would always think of handing important business matters over to Zheng Zeqi.
So annoying, truly annoying.
She hummed softly in frustration, her pearly teeth clicking together.
The pure white oval of her face was marred by an anger she tried to conceal, appearing colder than usual.
Zheng Mengni shut the door tightly and leaned against her desk, biting her thumb heavily. Her watery eyes were filled with confusion as she pushed aside the thought of inviting Guan Su Lin to dinner.
She desperately wanted to change her current situation.
A dark and bold emotion quietly grew within her.
Guan Su Lin had mentioned two words to her before:
"Going solo."
Before graduation, she could learn the ropes and then start her own business after leaving home.
Of course, he didn't mean that Zheng Mengni would do it alone.
Guan Su Lin said that as long as she had this idea, he would support her unconditionally.
Funding and connections were not something she needed to worry about at all.
It was like a delicious pie just waiting to be devoured.
She wanted to bite into it so badly.
If this really worked out, who knew how joyful it could be?
Zheng Mengni pulled out Guan Su Lin's number, her delicate fingers gliding hesitantly over the screen, suddenly feeling a sense of uncertainty.
Guan Su Lin was a shrewd businessman; every deal he handled never resulted in a loss.
Zheng Mengni got up, clutching her phone as she walked to the edge of the bed. At that moment, her determination ignited a fire within her, making her cheeks flush and the corners of her eyes redden.
What was there to be afraid of?
Guan Sulin had helped her time and again, and if he were truly selfless, that would be the most terrifying thing of all. If he had ulterior motives, then she could at least feel reassured.
Before approaching her, Guan Sulin must have done thorough research. He must have believed that what he wanted was something Zheng Mengni could provide, which was why he felt free to invest so much in her.
A gentle smile curved on her lips, and her fair, delicate face blossomed with vibrant color.
When she dialed Guan Sulin's number, her voice came out soft and gentle. "I've thought it over—yes, about your proposal. After graduation, I’ll start working at the studio."
Guan Sulin had anticipated this call. But when it connected, his eyes turned crescent-shaped with a smile that radiated confidence.
That greedy little girl was truly adorable.
Guan Sulin flicked his cigarette away, his refined features becoming clearer. A smile of determination flickered in the depths of his eyes.
His gentle voice flowed smoothly: "Have you decided on a direction? What area are you looking to pursue?"
Zheng Mengni bit her lip, showering him with compliments as she skillfully flattered him. "I haven't really thought about it; you're the expert in this area. Whatever you recommend must be the best, right?"
Guan Sulin gazed out the window and pressed his lips together thoughtfully. "Do you have any specific requirements?"
"I want to make money," Zheng Mengni said, her heart racing as she added, "a lot of money."
"Is it really that simple?"
"Uh-huh, can we do that?"
Guan Sulin chuckled. "Of course! Let's go out for dinner tomorrow."
It should have been her inviting him. But it didn’t matter; they would eat together, and she would take care of the bill.
Zheng Mengni thought to herself with a light and cheerful spirit.
