Someone had to take the lead, and soon the doctors began to speak freely.
Indeed, they had never seen a case like this before. As it stood, Miss Ye could only rely on her own willpower to overcome her addiction; otherwise, the cravings would become increasingly unbearable. The lady could temporarily rest assured, as this substance would not endanger her life, but it was imperative that Miss Ye stop using it.
Ye Bing gripped Sun Yao's wrist with all his strength. He opened his eyes in a daze, pain etched across his face as he struggled to say, "I didn't use."
Sun Yao did not believe for a second that Ye Bing would resort to using again. She loathed herself for being so careless and for discovering the truth so late.
Zheng Yicheng maintained a stern expression as he stepped forward and asked, "So it's hopeless now?"
The doctor replied, "We only have medication to suppress the cravings, which requires long-term use. Essentially, it's no different from developing another addiction; these are addictive substances that cannot truly help one quit."
Zheng Yicheng clasped the hands of the mother and daughter tightly, determination lacing his voice as it trembled slightly. "While the addiction isn't deep yet, we should send her to a rehabilitation center."
Sun Yao's eyes widened in disbelief as tears streamed down her face. "So you’re just going to abandon her?"
Zheng Yicheng's tone was rigid. "It's precisely because I care that I must intervene. Because she is my child, she has to quit. If you can't bear to do it, then let professionals take care of her."
Sun Yao broke down in tears, while Zheng Mengni stepped forward to embrace her mother, calmly explaining, "Dad, my sister hasn't used in months; I can vouch for that. I stayed by his side in the hospital for two months while he was in a coma. After he came out, he spent most of his time with me. Even his room was prepared by me. Besides, with his leg injury making movement difficult, there’s no way he could have secretly bought anything."
Zheng Yicheng interrupted coldly, "Enough! Just because he can hold back now doesn't mean he will be able to in the future. Sending him to a rehab center is the best choice for him!"
Zheng Mengni nodded in agreement. "I understand that the addiction must be completely eradicated. But this situation is too suspicious; besides, he has claimed he hasn't used."
Sun Yao cried out in frustration, "He couldn't have used!"
Ye Bing lay quietly on the sofa, enduring excruciating pain while gazing at Zheng Mengni's silhouette. For some reason, he felt a strange sense of comfort.
Zheng Yicheng remained silent, seemingly lost in thought. No matter what the reason was, such a scandal could not be allowed to leak out.
Zheng Mengni approached several doctors and said, "Even if you haven't seen anything like this before, there must be some abnormalities in his body. I remember he had blood drawn on the day of discharge; where are the reports? Surely there must be some abnormal values?"
"There are none," the doctor replied respectfully with his head bowed. "The report has already been shown to the lady."
Zheng Mengni smirked coldly. "Oh really? Then why is it possible to detect something now? Don't tell me he used after being discharged; he was with me every moment at home. Even when I wasn't there, we had servants watching over him. Are you suggesting that he used right under our noses? Do you think there's a traitor in our family?"
Upon hearing the word "traitor," the doctor wiped away cold sweat from his brow. "I didn’t mean that."
"If my family hadn’t discovered my sister’s poisoning today, how long were you planning to keep this from my mother?"
The doctor dared not deny it any longer and could only make excuses: "It was my oversight; the hospital has been very busy lately..."
Zheng Mengni didn’t want to waste any more breath on a group of frauds; she simply couldn’t understand why Ye Bing hadn’t spoken up about feeling unwell earlier.
He didn't seem like someone who would feel guilty after committing a crime. After some discussion, for the sake of caution, it was ultimately decided to send Ye Bing to a rehabilitation center. The addiction had to be kicked; if it was going to be done, it had to be done thoroughly.
The whole family went to see him off, and Zheng Mengni shared a car with Ye Bing. She raised the partition, isolating herself and Ye Bing in their own private space.
Zheng Mengni typed a message on her phone and handed it to Ye Bing to read. "Honestly, can you tell me who poisoned you?"
Ye Bing lacked the strength to speak, let alone type. Zheng Mengni thought for a moment and continued typing. "Was it that old man with the dragon tattoo from the club?"
Ye Bing shook his head gently. He leaned on Zheng Mengni's shoulder, mustering all his strength to whisper in her ear, "He doesn't have the guts."
Zheng Mengni asked, "Then who is it?"
