Zheng Mengni glanced at the timid boy hiding in the back, too afraid to step forward. He was from their class. Arriving a bit late, all the seats had been taken.
"Wei Jingxi," she said gently, "if you keep sitting here, our classmates will have to stand."
Wei Jingxi's expression was complicated. After a moment of hesitation, he silently stood up.
"I'm heading back now."
Did he dare refuse?
The moment Wei Jingxi turned around, his face immediately darkened. He cast a cold glance at the original occupant of the seat, lowering his eyelashes to shield the bitterness in his eyes.
Why was there such an oblivious person? Wherever he sat, that seat should belong to him.
In the two-thousand-square-meter auditorium, there were plenty of seats available. That damned fool was deliberately standing in the back, playing the victim to attract Xiao Ni's attention, forcing him to yield!
Wei Jingxi knew all too well that he couldn't let Xiao Ni see the dark emotions brewing inside him. Before leaving, he had to put on a facade of generosity and apology, striving to maintain a calm exterior.
After Wei Jingxi left, the boy was taken aback, hardly believing that Zheng Mengni would come to his aid. After all, he was her former fiancé; their previous relationship had been loud and sweet.
Sitting in the back row, Zhou Minshi witnessed the entire scene unfold. He clenched his fists resting on his knees, feeling a surge of frustration. If he had arrived just a moment earlier, he could have sat next to Zheng Mengni.
As the Opening Ceremony officially began, the new host took the stage. The crowd below buzzed like a beehive, their eyes sparkling with curiosity and awe as they whispered among themselves.
Everyone was surprised by the sudden change in hosts; however, within a minute, they were all absorbed in their phones, no one paying attention anymore.
Suddenly, a message in the campus group chat sparked heated discussions. At first, people thought it was a prank and dismissed it as a joke when it was privately shared among friends.
But soon enough, someone noticed something was off; the accompanying images and videos looked too real to be fabricated.
Before long, related topics quickly soared to the top of trending searches.
"Tan Yan's bullying at the club."
"Yarenyi Group heir Tan Yan's improper conduct."
"The youngest philanthropist Tan Yan becomes a kidnapper."
Zheng Mengni held her phone tightly, revealing a faint smile. She remained focused on what lay ahead, completely unaffected by the surrounding chatter. Her delicate profile appeared beautiful and gentle amidst it all.
Seated slightly behind, Shen Die gently tapped Zheng Mengni's shoulder, leaning forward to show her something on her phone.
After reading the message from Shen Die, Zheng Mengni feigned surprise, covering her mouth and whispering, "How could this happen? He’s not that kind of person!"
Shen Die leaned back and messaged, "Isn't the one he hurt your little duckling?"
Zheng Mengni lowered her head to edit her response, biting her lip. "Yeah, but I only played with him that one time. I heard he got injured later, so I treated him to a meal and gave him a gift. I didn’t expect his injury was caused by Tan Yan."
Shen Die replied, "That’s shocking! Tan Yan seems so gentle on the surface, but he has such a dark and violent side."
"Exactly, it’s hard to tell."
Shen Die recalled something and gossiped, "But it’s not surprising; his family is really complicated. Don’t be fooled by their high positions. Just look at his father—an elegant scoundrel who keeps many women outside. He probably has over a dozen illegitimate children."
Zheng Mengni responded, "I had no idea (covering her face)."
"Anyway, it’s best not to get too close to him. This trending topic doesn’t seem like just rumors."
Zheng Mengni obediently replied, "I know (playfully)."
She added with a pout, "By the way, Xiao Die, can you please not tell anyone about my relationship with Gao Lei? My family won’t allow me to be involved in these things; it would be a disaster if they found out. Please, please! Love you the most (heart emoji)."
Shen Die huffed playfully, "Silly girl, how could I possibly spill that!"
The noise around them suddenly quieted down as the auditorium grew still, and nearly everyone's gaze followed the tall and handsome figure moving through the room.
