Wei Jingxi wanted to slap himself; the words had spilled out like water, and he regretted it, but Zheng Mengni wouldn’t give him the chance to take it back.
He simply asked, “Are you serious?”
Zheng Mengni glanced at her watch. “Yeah, I have to go.”
She showed no hesitation and turned to leave.
Wei Jingxi stubbornly followed her, but was stopped by Tan Yan.
“Do you really not understand what she’s saying?”
Wei Jingxi gritted his teeth in anger, throwing Zheng Mengni’s coat back at her and rolling up his sleeves, ready to punch Tan Yan in the chest.
Zheng Mengni didn’t look back; she was completely unconcerned about the fight brewing behind her because of her actions.
However, just a few steps later, she found herself facing a pair of shiny leather shoes.
Zheng Mengni halted and prepared to sidestep to the left.
The owner of the shoes moved a few steps to block her path again.
Feigning ignorance of his intentions, she politely said, “Excuse me, could you please let me through?”
Guan Su Lin’s gaze was subtle as he looked thoughtfully at Zheng Mengni for a moment before lazily addressing Wei Jingxi, who was being choked by Tan Yan. “Nephew, how is it that I haven’t seen you for a moment and you’re already being bullied?”
Zheng Mengni silently observed him.
Although she had learned about Guan Su Lin’s identity beforehand, hearing him call out such an odd title was still surprising, especially considering he looked barely in his twenties.
Wei Jingxi broke free from Tan Yan’s grip and stepped back in embarrassment and anger. “What the hell are you shouting about! Are you crazy?”
Tan Yan withdrew his hand, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth as if he felt no pain, casting a distant glance at Zheng Mengni.
Feeling his gaze, Zheng Mengni turned and quietly walked away.
Guan Su Lin narrowed his eyes and strolled leisurely over to them, offering a candid assessment: “You hit pretty hard.”
A lazy smile gathered in Guan Su Lin’s eyes. “Poor thing. Here’s the deal: I like polite and sensible juniors. If you’re willing to call me Uncle Grandfather, I’ll help you deal with him.”
Tan Yan looked somewhat surprised, revealing a rare genuine expression. “Not family, not under the same roof; humor seems to be contagious after all.”
Wei Jingxi was furious. “What are you stirring up trouble for!”
Guan Su Lin replied coolly, “Aren’t you the one who can’t beat him?”
"Shut up! Why do you care so much?"
Tan Yan was too lazy to listen to the bickering of the two and hurriedly followed Zheng Mengni's retreating figure.
Wei Jingxi, unwilling to let him find Zheng Mengni, endured the sharp pain in his abdomen and tried to catch up.
Before he could take a step, his shoulder was pressed down by Guan Su Lin.
"Why are you running around at your father's wedding? I've been looking for you for ages."
"It's not my wedding!"
He forcefully brushed off Guan Su Lin's hand and insisted on moving forward.
Guan Su Lin's smile deepened, his expression growing colder. He struck with precision, his words cutting sharply.
"Still chasing after her? At such a young age, how can you have such bad habits? You need to change."
Wei Jingxi turned around, his eyes blazing with anger. "Xiao Ni is mine! That Jian Ren is just a fool trying to seduce her while I'm not around!"
Guan Su Lin looked at him with a smirk, clearly enjoying the situation. "I see."
"You don't know anything!"
Wei Jingxi was most annoyed by people who kicked someone when they were down. He had no idea how painful it was for Guan Su Lin; if he ever experienced something like this, Wei Jingxi doubted he would still be able to laugh.
