It was the weekend, and the amusement park was packed with people. The popular attractions had lines that stretched for over two hours. Wei Jingxi stood at the end of one such line, wearing a frown and a pink bunny ear headband that Zheng Mengni had just bought. Despite his stylish outfit, the mismatched pink made him look anything but cool.
Wait a minute, it’s a bit crooked. Zheng Mengni lowered her instant camera and adjusted the headband on his head. Wei Jingxi was about to complain about her messing up his hair, but when he glanced down and saw her sparkling eyes, he fell silent and obediently let her do as she pleased.
There you go, another photo opportunity for your social media. Wei Jingxi looked at the seemingly endless line and the towering roller coaster, feeling a wave of despair wash over him. He couldn’t understand what was so fun about this place—waiting in line just to jump off a building?
He grabbed Zheng Mengni’s wrist, and sure enough, it was already starting to feel hot from the sun. “Where’s the umbrella?” he asked.
“I thought today would be an indoor activity, so I didn’t bring it,” she replied.
Wei Jingxi tugged her away from the line. “Let’s go buy an umbrella first.”
Zheng Mengni thought that was a good idea. “I’ll go; you stay here and wait for me.”
Wei Jingxi didn’t want to be separated from her. “Why can’t we go together? There are so many people here; I won’t feel at ease if you’re alone.”
“But we’ve already been waiting for over ten minutes; you wouldn’t want to give up now, would you? It’ll be the same when I get back.”
“We’d have to rejoin the line if we leave,” he said, shocked. “I wasn’t even thinking of cutting in line; who would dare to cut in front of me?”
The person in front of them couldn’t take it anymore and rolled his eyes, turning around with a feigned smile. “Because if you leave this spot, it belongs to someone else. You’ll have to start over, you know?”
“Who are you? Why should I give my spot to someone else?” Wei Jingxi felt overheated in his black clothes that absorbed all the sunlight. He was already annoyed by waiting in line, and then he caught sight of the guy ahead—he happened to be Zheng Mengni’s favorite type: a bespectacled nerd. That made Wei Jingxi even more irritated as he glared at the guy’s perfectly ordinary face.
What’s with the act? he thought.
Wei Jingxi watched as he pretended to be discreet, turning his head to openly stare at someone else's wife, completely shameless. After all, Wei Jingxi had caught this bespectacled man doing this more than five times, his disgusting gaze fixated on Zheng Mengni as if his eyes were glued to her.
Wearing glasses and trying to appear refined, he would occasionally glance back, as if trying to entice someone.
When Wei Jingxi made his sarcastic remarks, the Glasses Man was left speechless. What kind of temperament did this guy have? Was he a baby who couldn’t be away from people?
However, if his girlfriend looked as stunning as Zheng Mengni, he would probably cling even tighter, not wanting to let anyone else near her.
Wei Jingxi had never seen anyone as beautiful as Zheng Mengni; she was a hundred times more gorgeous than the stars on television. It was impossible for him to look away, and he couldn’t be blamed for it.
On top of that, the girl spoke in a soft and gentle manner, like a sweet little lark, even more melodious than a singer’s voice. He found himself unable to resist eavesdropping on her conversation with Wei Jingxi while standing with his back turned.
When he turned around, he noticed Wei Jingxi's impressive attire and guessed that he was not an ordinary person; his temper seemed equally foul.
The Glasses Man was self-aware enough to know that he couldn't afford to offend someone like him, so he held back and retorted subtly: "This spot doesn’t have your name on it. How can you claim it? We’re all waiting in line; this is about following the rules."
Wei Jingxi raised an eyebrow and smiled instead. Did you really think you could take my spot if I offered it to you?
The calmer he appeared, the more dangerous he became.
Unexpectedly, the Glasses Man found him utterly baffling and shot back: "You think I’m just going to stand behind you because I’m bored? Do I look like I’m starving for your spot?"
Wei Jingxi's face darkened. Although he struggled to suppress his anger before speaking, his tone was even worse than before: "What did you just say?"
