After having dinner with Wei Jingxi, Zheng Mengni held his face and studied it for a moment. "That's great," she said, "the medicine seems to be working; your face looks much better than before."
"Much better, and now you're going to leave?" he asked.
"No rush, I'll stay with you a little longer. But I want to read, so you need to behave and not disturb me, okay?"
Wei Jingxi muttered, "When have I ever disturbed you?"
"I know you haven't. Just be good, alright?"
"I... I’m not being good at all."
Zheng Mengni knew he wanted to hear compliments, so she generously praised him: "You listen well, you're understanding, and you don't make a fuss."
Wei Jingxi frowned, a hint of irritation crossing his cold features. "Stop it, Zheng Mengni. What you're saying is clearly not me. Don't flatter me if you don't really mean it."
"I know you're not," Zheng Mengni replied, her gaze softer than water. She spoke gently, "But I want you to be that kind of person. Don't you want to marry me? This is my ideal partner."
Wei Jingxi, do you want to marry me? In other words, are you willing to be that kind of person?
He felt a headache coming on; the wound on his face tingled slightly as his skin began to warm up, feeling hot and flushed. After a long moment of furrowing his brows, he finally relaxed them and said, "I would."
Zheng Mengni patted his head. Contrary to her expectations, his hair was soft and felt similar to Mi Gao's. "Then cheer up! If you want to get engaged early, at least show some effort," she said. "Don't lose your temper or get into fights with others."
There were still many bad habits she wanted him to correct; trying to address them all at once was too impatient. Training should be subtle and gradual.
However, he was eager. "You set a standard; as long as I meet it, you'll agree to our engagement."
"Let me think," Zheng Mengni pondered. "If you can consistently come to school for a semester without being late or skipping classes, we can get engaged during the summer vacation."
Wei Jingxi's eyes lit up as he excitedly grasped Zheng Mengni's hand. "You're not lying to me?"
"Looks like I've become a liar in your eyes because of all the trouble," Zheng Mengni feigned sadness and sighed as she withdrew her hand. "If you don’t believe me, then forget it."
"I promise you, I will never be late for self-study, not even for a second, even if it’s at eight in the morning!" Wei Jingxi pulled Zheng Mengni back as she was about to leave. He held her waist, his determined gaze revealing a hint of almost twisted obsession.
"Okay."
"You better not go back on your word. If you dare to deceive me, you're finished!" Zheng Mengni pressed her finger against his lips. "Don't say that; I won't break my promise."
He leaned in closer, excitedly sealing her lips with his. A wave of warmth surged from her earlobe to the base of her ear, and he could feel his own lips trembling.
The girl kissing him was not only his fiancée but also the goddess he had secretly adored for many years. The feeling of fulfilling this long-held wish made Wei Jingxi want to scream with joy. His eyes sparkled with light, and intense happiness echoed in his chest.
"Wife! I love you!" Wei Jingxi gasped for breath, babbling as he pressed his forehead against Zheng Mengni's.
Zheng Mengni replied, "Aren't you getting ahead of yourself? We only agreed to get engaged."
"You will only marry me; you can only marry me. I can fulfill all your requests," Wei Jingxi declared confidently.
Zheng Mengni reminded him, "You can't just attend this semester's classes; you mustn't skip school in the future. If you do, the engagement can be canceled at any time."
"I know. You better trust me," he said before kissing her again.
The most blazing sun is nothing compared to a heart filled with love. Happiness came so suddenly that at that moment, Wei Jingxi never imagined there would be any variables between him and Zheng Mengni. Perhaps he was confident enough to believe that even if unexpected changes occurred, he could handle them well.
Wei Jingxi did not believe anything could go wrong, just as Zheng Mengni did not hold out much hope for him either.
