She continued to weave through the crowd, the straight path completely blocked. 0

Looking towards where the crowd was gathering, Zheng Mengni spotted a slender boy standing in the middle, his indifferent and refined face displaying an expression of detachment. 0

Her heart tightened, and just as she was about to shift her gaze, their eyes met. His gaze was eerie yet laden with meaning. 0

After just a second of eye contact, Zheng Mengni was the first to look away. 0

Around her, the argument in the crowd continued. It was unclear who threw the first punch, but the boy was suddenly kicked in the knee and stumbled forward. 0

Zheng Mengni didn’t turn back; her figure disappeared into the dense sea of people. 0

When Zheng Mengni found her class seat, not everyone had arrived yet. The school was filled with pampered rich kids; attendance at weekly meetings was optional—come if you wanted, skip if you didn’t. 0

To combat this poor behavior, the academic department would routinely check attendance and deduct points from the class based on absences. These points were crucial for evaluating and ranking classes. 0

However, for most students at Mingya University, the point deduction system felt trivial; it didn’t hurt or help much—once points were deducted, what could be done? 0

Yet a small number of students cared deeply about it, including Zheng Mengni. She wanted to run for student council president in her sophomore year. If she couldn’t even manage one class as a monitor, how could she convince others that she could manage the entire student council? 0

After counting heads, she noted that only two people were missing—one was in the restroom, and the other… 0

“Hey, what do you think Zhou Minshi is thinking?” 0

The girl who had come to the auditorium with Zheng Mengni, Shen Die, saved her a seat and leaned over to gossip once Zheng Mengni sat down. 0

Zheng Mengni asked seriously, “What happened?” 0

“You see, all you do is study every day; you don’t even know this juicy gossip! Let me tell you…” 0

Most students at Mingya University came from wealthy families around the world—privileged heirs with prominent backgrounds and substantial assets. 0

The remaining few were impoverished students from rural towns or remote areas who had been specially recruited due to their outstanding academic performance. 0

Zhou Minshi was one of this latter group—a provincial champion—and he was the boy who had just been bullied at the entrance of the auditorium. 0

According to Shen Die, Zhou Minshi had been invited to Duan Ya’s birthday party last week. On that night, he gifted her a bottle of niche brand perfume. 0

It’s worth noting that Zhou Minshi’s entire outfit combined wouldn’t even amount to a third of that perfume’s price; yet for Duan Ya, who was used to luxury goods, it was nothing more than cheap trinkets unworthy of her attention. 0

No one expected that Duan Ya would be so gracious, immediately spraying a bit of the perfume on her wrist and thanking everyone, saying she really liked the gift. As for whether she liked the person or the fragrance, everyone could see through it but chose not to say anything. 0

When Duan Ya's ex-boyfriend found out, he immediately confronted Zhou Minshi at the entrance of the auditorium. He called it a lecture, but his actions were anything but polite. It was surprising that he, who barely had enough for daily expenses, would buy perfume for Duan Ya. Was he really that infatuated? Shen Die covered her mouth in shock while secretly mocking his lack of self-awareness. 0

Zheng Mengni smirked, "Maybe he's just working hard to save up." 0

"Really? With his part-time job at a coffee shop, how much could he possibly earn? That perfume brand might be niche, but a bottle costs several hundred," she replied skeptically. 0

Feigning surprise, Zheng Mengni's eyes sparkled with admiration. "Wow, that's impressive! He must be quite thoughtful." 0

Zheng Mengni meant it sincerely; Zhou Minshi's part-time job as an illustrator was already demanding enough, and adding a coffee shop job was truly remarkable. Was he perhaps dissatisfied with her generosity and felt her pay was too low? 0

Zheng Mengni pondered quietly. 0

Shen Die raised an eyebrow dismissively. "What’s so impressive about that? He can only show off his grades." After a pause, she added, "And maybe his looks—barely." 0

Zheng Mengni simply smiled and remained silent. 0
