"Damn it!" Zhou Yan had been watching the two from the side, and seeing Jinyi at a disadvantage without being able to intervene, he clenched his fists so tightly that they cracked. Unable to hold back, he muttered a curse under his breath.
After several rounds of drinks, Xue Huanping began to show his true colors. His thick lips kept inching toward Jinyi's face, while she laughed and dodged, pulling him into a nearby private room by his tie.
"Beautiful lady, come on, let me kiss you." At that moment, Xue Huanping was too desperate to care about anything else. He started to strip off his clothes while lunging at Jinyi. The clasp of her qipao was yanked open forcefully, revealing a patch of smooth, delicate skin.
Jinyi instinctively tried to push him away, the stench of alcohol overwhelming her senses and making her feel nauseous.
However, when she caught sight of a figure appearing in the slightly ajar doorway out of the corner of her eye, she forced herself to suppress her discomfort and pretended to be enthusiastic as she rolled around with Xue Huanping.
Suddenly, there were a few sharp clicks from the doorway. Xue Huanping immediately sprang away from Jinyi like a startled bird, covering his face with his hands in panic. But it was already too late.
At that moment, Zhou Yan dashed in front of Jinyi, quickly taking off his suit jacket and draping it over her shoulders. He then turned around and shook the camera in his hand slowly, threateningly addressing Xue Huanping, "Chairman Xue, if these photos end up in the newspapers, what do you think will happen?"
Zhou Yan glanced at Jinyi and noticed her furious glare directed at Xue Huanping, tears still glistening in her eyes. His heart twisted painfully at the sight.
He had never seen her cry before and now regretted coming up with such a sleazy plan.
"You... you two..." Knowing he had fallen into their trap, Xue Huanping felt helpless. If these photos were published, not only would he lose his position as chairman, but his "tigress" of a wife would also make his life miserable.
"How much do you want?" Xue Huanping resigned himself to his fate, thinking that Zhou Yan and Jinyi were just trying to extort money from him. He decided to offer them cash to silence them.
"We don’t want money; we just want to know where your good friend—Zhao Wanye—is hiding!"
"I don’t know!" Upon hearing the condition for exchange, Xue Huanping's expression changed instantly as he rejected them without thinking.
"Oh? Then there's nothing we can do. I believe your wife and the newspaper would be very interested in these photos," Zhou Yan said with a sly smile as he pretended to dial a number.
"Alright, alright! I’ll tell you! He has a villa at Longyang Mountain; whether he’s there or not, I don’t know." Seeing Zhou Yan dialing his home number one digit at a time made Xue Huanping panic and rush forward to stop him.
"If you dare play tricks on us, don’t blame us for being ruthless!" Zhou Yan warned him while raising the camera. Then taking advantage of Xue Huanping's distraction, he struck him hard on the back of the head, causing him to collapse to the ground instantly.
At around eight o'clock in the evening, Jinyi and Zhou Yan emerged from the nightclub and hurried towards Longyang Mountain without a moment's delay.
The secret intelligence stolen by Zhao Wanye had also caught the attention of the Japanese. If they were to seize it first, the consequences would be unimaginable.
The atmosphere in the car was tense and heavy. Jinyi, still clouded by recent events, stared intently at the windshield, her expression grave.
"I told you, that bastard Xue Huanping would definitely take the bait," Zhou Yan said, attempting to lighten the mood with a forced laugh.
Jinyi remained coldly focused on the road ahead, ignoring him. Zhou Yan felt a bit foolish for trying to joke and turned his face away, mumbling softly, "You're so indifferent; it's like you're a different person from just now!"
"Let's just hurry up," Jinyi replied, still maintaining her serious demeanor. She knew Zhou Yan was worried about her and was trying to cheer her up.
After spending two months together, she understood that he was a humorous and likable man. There were many times when she found herself impressed by his wit and intelligence.
However, she deliberately kept a certain distance from him. After all, a man who could easily win a woman's heart was not someone she could afford to get close to, especially as a woman burdened with so many responsibilities.
"Then why did you join the army?" Zhou Yan asked, pleasantly surprised that she was willing to talk.
"To kill Japanese soldiers and avenge my parents!" The mention of her family's deep-seated grievances made Jinyi's eyes turn icy. This was a pain she rarely spoke of, yet it fueled her determination to endure the harsh training in boot camp.
Zhou Yan wisely chose not to press further, and they fell into silence for a moment.
By the time they reached the foot of Longyang Mountain, it was already dawn.
After some reconnaissance, Jinyi noticed that several agents were guarding the entrance of Zhao Wanye's villa. It would be nearly impossible for just the two of them to break in.
"Hey, do you have any ideas?" Jinyi asked, feeling at a loss and turning to Zhou Yan for help.
"I'm not 'hey'! You can call me Zhou Yan or Brother Zhou," he replied playfully, fiddling with his gun and teasing her with a change in tone.
"What's the time for jokes?" Jinyi shot him a glare, but Zhou Yan merely whistled. Just then, a faint rustling of leaves came from the woods behind them.
"Someone's coming!" Jinyi said, alert as she drew her handgun. However, Zhou Yan quickly stepped forward and pressed down on her gun hand, leaning in close to whisper in her ear, "It's our people."
Moments later, eight figures clad in black emerged from the trees, swiftly forming a neat line in front of Zhou Yan.
"Alright, let's move," Zhou Yan commanded succinctly, offering no further explanation.
Four Special Forces Operators silently approached and efficiently knocked out two Special Agent Guards.
Meanwhile, the other four Special Forces Operators nimbly scaled the balcony and swiftly dealt with the two guards who were engaged in conversation.
Ten individuals had quietly infiltrated Zhao Wanye's villa without raising any alarms. A sense of unease began to creep into Zhou Yan's mind; something felt off about the situation.
The spacious villa was eerily empty. Jinyi signaled to Zhou Yan and then cautiously made her way toward Zhao Wanye's study.
The door was slightly ajar and unlocked. As soon as Jinyi stepped into the study, she spotted the safe in the corner; it was highly likely that the stolen intelligence was hidden inside.
After signaling "come here" to Zhou Yan and the others, Jinyi could hardly contain her eagerness and stepped into the study first.
Just as her hand reached toward the safe, someone suddenly pressed a gun against the back of her head.
