She couldn't hold back any longer. She picked up the bowl and placed it on the man's head, hands on her hips, laughing in anger as she shouted, "What do you think you are? Did I say I wanted to marry you? What do you think this is, a family affair?"
"We have no relationship at all! One moment you complain that I eat too much, the next you criticize my clothes. Why don't you take a look at yourself, with your broad shoulders and thick waist?"
As she spoke, she scrutinized the man from head to toe, her disdain evident in her exaggerated expression. "With a look like yours, how dare you criticize me? You drool all over your food—don't you know you have bad breath?"
Li Huimei's outburst left everyone in the state-run restaurant stunned. They looked at her in disbelief. She glanced down at the bowl on the man's head, feeling a twinge of sympathy for him, but couldn't help but feel a bit amused.
"Oh my goodness! It’s really just sitting there on his head."
The man had already turned beet red when Li Huimei had been shouting at him. Struggling to contain his anger, he removed the bowl from his head and began shaking off the rice like a madman. He glared at Li Huimei and gritted his teeth, cursing, "You shameless woman! How dare you treat me like this? I'll beat you to death!"
He raised his hand to grab Li Huimei, but was unexpectedly stopped by another man.
Turning to face the newcomer with a fierce expression, he shouted, "Get lost! This is none of your business!"
Liu Heng chuckled at the man's pathetic state. "I’m actually going to meddle in this today."
He pushed the man back with ease and stepped beside Li Huimei. Liu Heng leaned in and whispered, "You're amazing! So brave to take him on alone."
Li Huimei proudly lifted her chin. "Of course! But honestly, I was a bit scared. Now that I've started this, there's no turning back."
She gave the man an awkward smile and winked at Liu Heng for help. "Liu Heng, I'm counting on you today. You helped me out; I'll treat you to dinner next time—your choice!"
Liu Heng raised an eyebrow and smirked slightly. "Alright then, it's settled. Next time, you’re treating me."
The man nearly stumbled as he regained his balance and saw the two chatting casually. He scoffed loudly and yelled, "You two adulterers! How dare you chat right in front of me? You filthy slut! Even with a man already, you're still looking for suitors—so shameless! I'm going to report you!"
Li Huimei was infuriated. She grabbed a pair of chopsticks and threw them at the man's forehead with a sharp thwack.
"Bah! You're the one who's shameless! Just look at yourself—a toad wishing to eat swan meat! You have no shame at all!"
The matchmaker told our family that you are 1.8 meters tall, handsome, have a good job, and a nice temperament.
She let out a sound of disbelief, her tone deliberately elongated as if she had seen something disgusting.
"Look at you! You're not even taller than me, at most you’re 1.6 meters, and you’re as round as a ball with a temper that could kill someone."
"I was going to find a matchmaker myself! How can you lie like this? I’ll go around your neighborhood and spread the word that your family is deceitful and shameless. You’ll never find a wife at this rate."
"Let’s see how you can be so arrogant in the future; I’ll make sure to take care of you."
Li Huimei said this while waving her fists, her sharp tongue chattering away, her expression quite vivid.
Liu Heng stood behind her, watching over her with a doting gaze. The smile on his lips wouldn’t fade, and he couldn’t help but chuckle softly.
The man looked at Li Huimei, his head ready to explode from anger, but he dared not act out further. He was genuinely afraid of this woman before him.
He feared that Li Huimei would actually do what she said; if that happened, he would have even less chance of finding a wife. After all, it was already hard enough for him due to his own shortcomings.
He wouldn’t even consider looking for a wife in the countryside.
Li Huimei had a bad reputation; she wasn’t afraid at all and boldly looked up at the man with a taunting smile.
He pointed at her in exasperation, "You shrew! I don’t want you; let’s see who would be willing to marry you! Marrying you would be like blinding oneself for eight lifetimes!"
"Thanks for your concern, but I don’t need your help with my affairs. I’m more worried about you ruining my reputation!"
Li Huimei deliberately stood on her tiptoes to look down at him, her eyes flashing with disdain.
She didn’t discriminate against overweight or short people; she simply despised men with such foul mouths.
Selfish and self-serving, he only wanted a free maid and breeding tool—not a wife at all.
She couldn’t hold back any longer; she had to retort immediately to show him who was boss.
The man turned away helplessly; he knew he couldn’t win against the sturdy man beside Li Huimei. His own flab was no match for that solid build—he was well aware of his own limitations.
He couldn’t outtalk this foul-mouthed woman either. All he could do was leave.
As he walked away, Li Huimei cheered from behind, "Why are you leaving? Do you realize you were in the wrong?"
"If you dare to set me up again in the future, I’ll break your legs! Just because you can talk doesn’t mean you're the only one who can speak!"
There were still quite a few people around who were watching her with puzzled expressions. Li Huimei shrugged nonchalantly and explained loudly, "It's not like I caused trouble on purpose; he was the one being unreasonable first. He said that once we get married, I shouldn't eat so much, calling me a pig. Please, look at me—I’m so slender, how could I resemble a pig?"
"Also, he said I should give my salary to the family and stop buying clothes in the future. We’re not even married yet! We just met for the first time during this blind date, and he’s already dictating to me like that. How can I tolerate it?"
The women around her clapped in agreement, and several men joined in as well. However, some men remained silent, their heads downcast, their eyes reflecting irritation. They believed that the man had a point! Once married, things should be like that!
Little did they know that their reactions were being closely observed by the women beside them, who were also contemplating their thoughts.
Li Huimei quickly walked over to pick up the chopstick holder from the ground, carefully inspecting it for any damage. Finding none, she placed it back on the table and grabbed a broom nearby to sweep up the rice grains, collecting them in an oil cloth she had brought along.
She then told the staff in the restaurant to pack up all the food on the table.
Liu Heng watched her and said, "If you want to eat, you can order more; just leave those behind!"
Li Huimei looked at him disdainfully before smiling again. "What are you thinking? When did I say I wanted to eat? I'm taking this home for my dog; this is good food that shouldn't go to waste."
She accepted the packed items from the staff and placed them in her basket. Then she joined Liu Heng at the table where Lu Zheng and Wen Qian were seated.
"Teacher Li!"
"Ah, Xiao Chen is so well-behaved!" Li Huimei happily ruffled Lu Chen's hair.
Wen Qian smiled at her and then gave her a thumbs-up. "That was impressive!"
"Just okay, nothing special!" Li Huimei replied with an embarrassed smile, not daring to mention that it was just routine work.
