When she returned home, Lu Zheng had not yet arrived, and Wen Qian was preparing to cook for herself. During this time, she had only eaten the food from the military canteen, and it had been a while since she last cooked. The meals she made were quite delicious.
She quickly stir-fried two dishes and boiled some porridge. Just then, Lu Zheng came in, holding a bag of multigrain buns he had brought from the canteen.
As they sat down to eat, Lu Zheng recalled something that had happened in the afternoon. "Aunt Tian's daughter-in-law gave birth this afternoon; they had a big baby boy. Let's go see them together tomorrow morning."
"Really? That was fast." Wen Qian replied. It had been quite some time since Aunt Tian and her family had come to the military base, and Lin Si had just given birth; she could tell when Aunt Tian arrived.
"It seems she really cares for her daughter-in-law," Wen Qian added. Lin Si's late pregnancy had been under Aunt Tian's care, and she looked much healthier and more vibrant now.
"Then let's buy some things at the supply and marketing cooperative tomorrow morning to bring to them; we can't go empty-handed," Wen Qian suggested.
"Okay," Lu Zheng agreed.
Suddenly, Lu Chen asked softly, "Mom and Dad, is Wang Zhuo going to have a little brother?"
"Yes, Zhuo Zhuo is going to have a brother; he will also be your brother," Lu Zheng replied.
Lu Chen pondered for a moment and then asked, "When will I have a little brother of my own, Mom?"
Wen Qian looked helplessly at Lu Zheng, signaling him to answer; this was a question she couldn't address. To her surprise, Lu Zheng's response was completely unexpected.
He had thought that Lu Zheng wanted another child. Instead, he seriously pulled Lu Chen closer and said earnestly, "Chen Chen, your mom and I won’t have any more brothers or sisters for you. You will be our only child for life."
"Ah? Why?" Lu Chen asked in confusion.
Lu Zheng seemed a bit lost himself as he gazed at Lu Chen, recalling images from his dreams—dreams where his beloved son was bullied and beaten. The tragic scenes of his son in those dreams haunted him.
He didn’t want another child to divert his attention and love away from Lu Chen. Love could never be fair or equally distributed; one party would always feel neglected while the other received more affection.
He didn’t want that! He didn’t want Lu Chen to be unhappy in the future. Even if they had another child, if most of their attention remained on Lu Chen, the younger child would inevitably feel neglected. He would rather not have another child at all.
Moreover, he didn’t want Wen Qian’s health to suffer again. "Chen Chen, you just need to know that your mom and I love you the most," he reassured him.
Wen Qian looked at him in surprise; she hadn’t expected him to say that. After all, they had discussed this topic before, and she still hoped to give Lu Chen a sibling.
She was all alone, and so was Lu Zheng after him. Therefore, she wanted Chenchen to have one more close relative, one more sibling to accompany him.
Lu Chen didn’t understand; he only knew that his mom and dad loved him the most. That was enough! He happily hugged Lu Zheng's leg, shaking it with excitement and joy. "Dad, Chenchen loves you and Mom the most too! You are the only parents I will ever have!"
Little Lu Chen made his promise and then ran off cheerfully to eat.
Wen Qian came out of Lu Chen's room and entered her own. At that moment, Lu Zheng was marking her mistakes and explaining them to her. Wen Qian hesitated as she sat down, wanting to ask something but unsure what it should be. Should she ask why they weren’t having children? But that felt so awkward!
"Let’s sleep!" She looked up at Lu Zheng in confusion, only to realize he had already finished marking the papers. She moved into bed, and as Lu Zheng lay down and turned off the light, he naturally wrapped his arms around her to sleep.
Although Wen Qian felt a moment of awkwardness, she quickly relaxed. Unable to fall asleep, she asked softly, "How is the situation with Chixue Tea and her mother being handled?"
"It's still under investigation. It's been a while since the incident happened, so it needs some time."
"What about Chixue Tea? I heard she committed suicide?"
At this, Lu Zheng sighed. "She didn’t die; she’s still in the hospital, in a coma and hasn’t woken up yet. Fortunately, Guan Weiguang got her there in time; otherwise, she might not have made it."
"She was determined to die," he continued. "When she crashed into the car, there wasn’t a hint of hesitation; instead, she crashed into it fiercely." A large dent had formed on her head from the impact.
Guan Weiguang had planned to leave immediately but ended up staying behind. Deep down, he still had feelings for Chixue Tea despite planning to give up on her.
Regarding various investigations, Commander Chi answered some questions vaguely. Chixue Tea's mother remained silent throughout the entire process, saying nothing at all. She knew that speaking could lead to mistakes—sometimes it was better not to say anything at all.
Lu Zheng held Wen Qian tightly and said softly, "It’s okay; there will come a time when everything will be clear. We can wait patiently."
"Yes, alright. Let’s wait together."
Lu Zheng slowly opened his eyes and looked down at the woman in his arms. Seeing her sparkling eyes, he could no longer hold back and leaned down to find the right spot to kiss her.
When their lips met, Wen Qian froze for a moment, then raised her arms to wrap around his neck.
The kiss deepened. The two of them were becoming increasingly in sync, their movements perfectly coordinated. Each time, Wen Qian felt herself getting dizzy from the kiss, her mind blank, as if she were in a half-asleep state.
Lu Zheng's kissing skills had improved rapidly; he held Wen Qian's head as he kissed her. His arms were somewhat restricted, so he squeezed her legs and pressed down on her shoulders, shifting their positions.
Wen Qian found herself lying on top of him, nervously pushing her hands against his chest. She wanted to lift her head but was held down, forced to endure this possessive kiss.
Sometimes, Wen Qian thought Lu Zheng was even more childish and domineering than Chen Chen.
In a daze, she finally realized that she had been released. She lay on the man’s chest, gasping for breath, trying hard to calm herself down. His heartbeat was unusually fast as well.
Thump thump thump.
The two of them were close together, feeling each other's breaths. The sensations under her hands kept shifting. Wen Qian tapped Lu Zheng and hoarsely scolded him, "Stop moving; let me lie still for a while."
Upon hearing this, Lu Zheng immediately relaxed his muscles, keeping his chest still and gradually easing the tension in his body.
Wen Qian felt a bit helpless and pinched him playfully, but it seemed like she had pressed some kind of button. She heard the man above her let out a muffled groan and quickly reached out to grab her wandering hand.
Breathing heavily with a rough voice, he said, "Don't touch me like that; otherwise, I can't guarantee I can hold back."
Hadn't they already understood each other's feelings?
Wen Qian stiffened and tried to pull away but was firmly held in place by the man. He said, "Be good; let's just hold each other and sleep."
However, Wen Qian was not pleased. She looked at him with confusion and asked, "What is that thing of yours? It's pressing against me."
