Yixue Cha's eyes burned red with anger as she twisted her face to look at Guan Weiguang, gripping his clothes tightly with both hands. Ever since she had been brought home, she had been confined by Captain Yi, and it was only with great difficulty that she managed to come out after begging her mother.
At home, she neither ate nor drank, spending her days in a corner of the room, muttering to herself in a daze, even threatening to take her own life with a knife. He felt heartbroken for her and urged her to sneak out, to return before Captain Yi arrived.
She paid no mind to her dirty and disheveled clothes, her hair in disarray, and her face marked with patches of white and yellow. Time was short; she had to hurry!
Guan Weiguang looked down at Yixue Cha, the struggle and pain evident in his eyes. His lips were pressed tightly together, and his brows furrowed deeply. His hands were clenched into fists, veins bulging, his body bent slightly as he dared not meet her gaze.
His feelings for Yixue Cha were complicated. Initially, he felt sympathy for what she had endured. Then there was that accidental glimpse of her beauty at the guesthouse! Gradually, as they spent more time together, he felt a stirring in his heart that he could not conceal—a heartache knowing that what she admired and desired was not him but his closest brother.
What choice did he have?
She pleaded with him, looking so pitiful that it kept him awake at night. How could he not hesitate? Time and again, he helped her while feeling increasingly unable to stand tall in front of Lu Zheng.
The last time he inadvertently saw Lu Zheng buying a watch for Wen Qian, he mentioned it casually to Yixue Cha, and she had taken it to heart.
"Guan Weiguang, do you really like me? If you truly care for me, why won't you help me? Why?"
Yixue Cha screamed in desperation, her eyes filled with a mix of pity and accusation as she shifted from gripping his clothes to pressing down on his hands. "Do I really hold no place in your heart?"
Guan Weiguang dared not speak. The moment he glanced into Yixue Cha's eyes, he quickly averted his gaze. He feared that if he looked again, he would soften.
His relationship with Lu Zheng had certainly grown distant; how could he continue this way?
Seeing Guan Weiguang remain silent made Yixue Cha's heart race with panic. Gritting her teeth, she declared loudly, "My father is definitely going to introduce me to someone! Don’t you want to be with me?"
She noticed the flicker of emotion in his eyes and felt a pang in her heart. She pressed on to provoke Guan Weiguang further.
"I promise you, I promise you, I'll do it just this once, just this once. If it doesn't work out, I won't do it again," she pleaded.
"Please, Wei Guang, I'm begging you, help me just one more time!"
After saying this, she leaned weakly against Guan Wei Guang's chest, acting coy and rubbing against him. Her hand slowly moved up his arm, from his hand to his wrist, then to his elbow, and finally resting on his shoulder.
Guan Wei Guang's bent posture conveniently aided Yi Xue Cha's intentions. She wrapped her arms around his neck and playfully squirmed in his embrace. With a soft and pleading voice, she continued to implore him, "Wei Guang, I'm begging you one last time. If you help me this time, I won't ask for your help again. We can live together, just the two of us."
"Really, I'm not lying. If I don't succeed this time, I will give up for good."
"All these years, I've seen how you've treated me; I've kept it in my heart. I know everything about you. I will definitely settle down and marry you, have children!"
Her words wove a beautiful dream for Guan Wei Guang—one he had never dared to imagine before. Yi Xue Cha was not unattractive; on the contrary, she was quite lovely with a delicate appearance and a good figure. Otherwise, Guan Wei Guang wouldn't have fallen so deeply for her or been willing to help her so much.
Having the person he loved most in his arms, seeking his help… She even promised to marry him and have children!
With great difficulty, Guan Wei Guang reached out to embrace Yi Xue Cha. He closed his eyes as if resigning himself to fate and rasped out with difficulty, "I will help you this last time."
Yi Xue Cha looked at him excitedly. She released her grip around his neck and tightly wrapped her arms around his waist instead. One was filled with excitement while the other felt a painful tremor in his hands.
Guan Wei Guang wanted to hold Yi Xue Cha tightly in his arms but restrained himself, only holding her loosely.
After getting off the car, Lu Zheng carried the sewing machine while Wen Qian had a basket on her back as the family hurried home.
On the way, they encountered several neighbors who looked enviously at their new sewing machine. Although they lived in a family compound, with one man working to support the entire household, there was hardly any extra money left over!
Upon arriving home, Wen Qian directed Lu Zheng to place the sewing machine in the west room. The west room was temporarily unoccupied and served as a storage space for miscellaneous items.
Just as they got home, someone came to say that Team Leader Yi was looking for Lu Zheng and asked him to go see her.
After Lu Zheng left, Lu Chen also went off to play with Wen Yuan Yuan and a few friends.
Wen Qian planned to take out the fabric she had just bought to cut and make clothes. She intended to make a set for herself and one for Lu Chen first.
To avoid any further delays, especially with the weather turning cooler, she decided to take action. She moved the wooden frame outside and uncovered the cloth draped over it, revealing the fabric underneath.
As she did so, she noticed a pair of leather shoes and a set of clothes beneath the frame. Pulling out the shoes, she realized they were her size! Unfolding the clothes, she found a long-sleeved shirt that she had seen at the department store, but it had been too expensive for her to buy at the time. To her surprise, Lu Zheng had actually purchased it for her. He even got her a pair of leather shoes!
Without hesitation, she took off her current shoes and tried on the new ones. They fit perfectly! She slipped on the other shoe as well and stood up to walk around. The difference was noticeable, but they felt a bit unfamiliar. She worried about scuffing or damaging them; if that happened, it would be such a waste. Besides, her cloth shoes were far more comfortable.
She took off the leather shoes and put them away, opting instead for her trusty cloth shoes, which felt much better as she walked around comfortably. Unfolding the shirt, a smile crept onto her face; it looked quite nice, and she found herself liking it after all.
She placed the shirt neatly on the table in the room, planning to wash it later when she did laundry. Then she spread out the cloth and used leftover charcoal from burning wood in the kitchen to draw lines on the fabric. While drawing, she intentionally made Lu Chen's shirt slightly larger.
Recently, Lu Chen had been eating well. Although he initially struggled with his digestion, he eventually adjusted his diet and adapted over time. With proper nutrition, both his height and physique were improving rapidly!
Wen Qian suddenly recalled that since Lu Zheng had come into her life, she hadn’t done laundry at all. All her clothes were washed by Lu Zheng when he took his showers at night; being the last one to bathe, he would wash them without a second thought. This had saved her quite a bit of effort.
At that moment, Wen Qian felt that living with Lu Zheng wasn’t so bad after all. Meanwhile, as Lu Zheng headed to find Captain Yi, he inadvertently witnessed a scene where Guan Weiguang was parting ways with a woman.
As Guan Weiguang stepped out and spotted Lu Zheng standing nearby, he was startled at first but relaxed once he realized it was just Lu Zheng.
