During dinner, Lu Zhengdong wanted to reconcile with his son. However, as he approached, Lu Chen directly moved his chair to sit next to Wen Qian, pressing closely against her and glaring at Lu Zhengdong with angry little eyes. It was clear that he still held a grudge from last night and harbored dissatisfaction towards his father.
Lu Zhengdong sighed helplessly and turned to look earnestly at Lu Chen. "Chenchen, I want to say I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said what I did last night. Can you forgive me?"
Lu Chen pouted unhappily, hesitating as he glanced at Wen Qian. She simply patted his head and smiled at him. Lu Chen looked down at the breakfast in his hands, then back at Lu Zhengdong, a struggle evident in his eyes as he didn't know what to do.
"Chenchen, you can decide for yourself," Wen Qian said.
Hearing her words, Lu Chen finally turned to Lu Zhengdong and said seriously, "Dad, I forgive you, but I hope you won't say that again in the future. Chenchen is unhappy inside; you want to take Mom away, but you can't push me aside. I'm also your child, and you need to like me too. I like you as well!"
After this heartfelt declaration, Lu Zhengdong felt a mix of emotions; he realized that his words from last night had deeply hurt a young child's innocent heart. He nodded and assured Lu Chen repeatedly that he would definitely discuss things with him in the future. Only then did Lu Chen agree to forgive him.
"Dad, I forgive you! But please don't make me unhappy again; otherwise, I won't talk to you anymore!" Lu Chen beamed as he moved his small stool next to Lu Zhengdong, wrapping his arms around his father's arm and happily snuggling against him.
"Dad, I want to play on the swing later!"
Lu Zhengdong readily agreed. "Sure!" After calming down the upset little one, how could he refuse such a request? As long as it didn't break any rules or harm anyone, he would do everything within his power. This was not only to mend Lu Chen's wounded heart but also what a normal father should do.
Wen Qian watched the reconciled father and son with a smile and shook her head. "That little rascal has been completely won over by the old fox!"
After all these years, how could Lu Zhengdong not understand how to handle a child like Lu Chen? After finishing breakfast and swinging for a bit, he took his briefcase and left for work.
Wen Qian decided it was time to tidy up her home with a thorough cleaning. Although she had organized a bit when she first moved in, there were still many details that needed attention. As a cleanliness enthusiast, she simply couldn't tolerate the mess any longer, so she planned to dedicate an entire morning to cleaning.
During the years when the Lu family had been struggling, no matter how tired she was, she always made sure both she and Lu Chen looked presentable. Even if their clothes were worn out and needed washing, she insisted on keeping everything clean. She believed that as long as she washed them slowly and carefully, the clothes wouldn't get damaged.
Speaking of clothes, she realized that she needed to buy a sewing machine soon. Both her and Lu Chen's wardrobes needed preparation. Buying all new clothes would cost an exorbitant amount, and although she had money, her habit of saving was deeply ingrained.
With the weather getting colder, neither she nor Chen could wear their winter clothes anymore, so they needed to prepare new ones. It was essential to take advantage of the warm weather while it lasted; otherwise, going out in winter would be out of the question. In the future, expenses would surely increase, so saving wherever possible was wise—opportunities to earn money were hard to come by!
Earlier, she could sell tickets for some income, but now in this unfamiliar place, it was a different story. Moreover, the tickets that Lu Zheng had sent home were also necessary.
While Wen Qian was cleaning, Lu Chen helped her out. Suddenly, a group of children knocked on the door looking for him to play. Lu Chen hesitated and turned to Wen Qian with his big eyes darting around.
Wen Qian smiled and encouraged him to go outside, but Lu Chen refused. "Mom, I want to help you!"
"We want to help too!" several little ones chimed in behind him, like soldiers following their general into battle. One child carried water while another held a towel.
Wen Qian didn’t push the kids away; instead, she took the opportunity to teach them some everyday knowledge and share little bits of wisdom she had gathered over the years from her life experiences and from being around Lu Zheng in her past life. She found it quite interesting and welcomed their curiosity.
The children looked at Wen Qian with admiration. One little boy piped up, "Auntie, my mom says boys shouldn’t do housework; that's women’s work! When we grow up, we’re supposed to support our families!"
"My mom says the same thing! She says I have my sister and my younger sister; there’s no way I’ll be doing housework!"
In my family, it's the same. My father and grandfather never do any housework; it's always my grandmother and mother who take care of it. In the future, it will be my sister and my wife doing it too—I'm not going to do anything!
Wen Qian smiled at the little boy and gently pulled them to sit on a bench. She said slowly, "Haohao, Auntie can't say that your mom is wrong, but boys can also do housework. There's no rule that says only girls can do housework."
"Uncle Lu Zheng does housework every day. If you don't believe me, you can ask Chen Chen!"
The little ones all turned to look at Lu Chen, who nodded proudly. "My dad not only does housework but also cooks and washes dishes! He's super amazing!"
"Is he really that amazing?"
"Of course! I help my dad every day. If he can't do it in the future, then I'll do it. Mom just needs to encourage me a little."
"Mom works hard doing housework, so if I help her, she can rest. I'm awesome!"
Wen Qian looked at Lu Chen as he spoke, unable to suppress a smile. This little guy was so proud and had no idea what humility was!
"Then I’ll help my mom at home too! I’ll tell my dad to join in as well."
"I want to help too!"
The competition among the children was truly amusing! Immediately, some kids wanted to rush home. Wen Qian opened the door to see them off.
The little ones marched home with their heads held high, running eagerly toward their houses.
Soon, a strange scene unfolded in the family courtyard!
Parents were washing clothes while their children rushed over to take over the task. Those cleaning were also fighting for the brooms to sweep the floor! Even adults who were putting on duvet covers found their children trying to grab needles and thread to sew them!
The adults looked at their children in confusion and asked, "What’s going on?"
"Auntie said boys should help with housework and contribute to the family!"
Some parents complained about Wen Qian idly chatting with the kids and saying such things.
But there were still many adults who looked at their children with pride!
"How are you doing with this? I've been waiting for so long, and you still haven't delivered!"
Chiyuki glared at the man in front of her, unable to hold back her loud reprimand.
