Everyone is a person with flesh and blood; how can they tolerate such behavior? The young girl was so frightened that she cried loudly, yet the woman insisted on pulling at her clothes. After being pulled away, she cried at the nurse's station, continuously obstructing the doctors from saving lives, nearly causing someone to die. Our hospital is here to save lives, not to harm them.
The couple had no money left in the hospital; they refused to pay and insisted on staying while making trouble for the patients, nurses, and doctors. Everyone rushed to the nurse's station to report them. We must deal with this matter. If they can't come up with the money, isn't it normal for us to ask them to leave the hospital? Where is the logic in not paying back what you owe?
After the head nurse finished speaking, Zhang Yan and Lu Yao's faces turned pale, looking as if they wanted to sink into the ground. Wen Qian smiled slightly upon hearing this; Zhang Yan and Lu Yao were still so self-righteous, always thinking of themselves as the protagonists of this world, believing everyone would help them. Oh, wait! In their previous life, it was indeed like that—at least until Lu Zheng returned.
A man stepped forward, pointing at Lu Yao and Zhang Yan, angrily saying, "Yes, that's right! I shared a ward with him, and he wouldn't stop arguing. He disturbed everyone so we couldn't rest. If we hadn't gone to testify, the hospital would have really taken the blame. How could we all be willing to go to the hospital or seek treatment then?"
The crowd surrounding them grew somber, all glaring at Lu Yao and Zhang Yan. These two dared to speak falsely and mislead them here. They were on the verge of causing chaos alongside them; it wouldn't just be embarrassing then.
After the police nodded in agreement, they were about to take Zhang Yan and Lu Yao away. Suddenly, Zhang Yan broke free from the officer's grasp and rushed toward the head nurse. Gritting her teeth, she shouted, "You vile woman! I'm going to strangle you!"
Her speed was too fast; she succeeded in grabbing the head nurse's neck tightly. "Help!" The head nurse's face turned red as she desperately slapped Zhang Yan's hands away, but Zhang Yan continued to hold on fiercely.
By the time everyone reacted, the head nurse was nearly suffocating. Two police officers quickly rushed to grab Zhang Yan; using all their strength, they finally pulled her away while the head nurse collapsed on the ground, clutching her throat and coughing.
Zhang Yan struggled and kicked at her while cursing angrily, her face twisted in rage. "Vile woman! It's all your fault! If it weren't for you, we wouldn't have been kicked out! You're a fraud!"
A staff member from the hospital came out to check on the head nurse and only relaxed when they saw her breathing return to normal. A young girl stepped forward in anger and slapped Zhang Yan hard across the face.
"Shut up! My sister didn't deceive anyone! You wanted to tear my clothes off in the hospital just because your man looked at me a few more times? Why don't you hit him instead? Why are you bullying me?"
"Ha, you're just too afraid to confront him, so you're taking it out on me."
The young girl walked up to the police officer and shouted, "Officer, I want to report a crime! She grabbed me and tore my clothes! My outfit was just made with fine fabric, it cost a lot!"
"Officer, you must arrest her! She almost ruined my reputation. If that happens, I might as well die!"
With tears streaming down her face, the girl looked at Zhang Yan with a pitiful expression, her small face contorted in distress.
Zhang Yan froze for a moment. She glanced at the girl and the head nurse, especially noticing the nurse's neck, which was already turning blue from being choked. Fear made her take a step back.
"It wasn't me! I didn't do it! Please don't arrest me! I didn't do anything!"
Zhang Yan crouched down on the ground, clutching her head in agony as she wailed, "Don't arrest me! I swear I didn't do anything! I really don't know anything!"
Everyone stared at Zhang Yan in disbelief. Just moments ago, she had been threatening to harm others, but now she was pitifully begging for mercy on the ground.
She crawled over to Lu Yao's side and tightly grasped his clothing, burying her head against his back. "It wasn't me! I truly don't know anything! I swear!"
Lu Yao looked at her in confusion. He turned around and shook Zhang Yan by the shoulders. "Zhang Yan, wake up! Zhang Yan?"
"Ah! It wasn't me! I really didn't do anything!"
Zhang Yan screamed in panic, clutching Lu Yao tightly as she lay on the ground with her head pressed down, trembling in fear.
Suddenly, someone in the crowd spoke up, "Is she... crazy?"
"Crazy?"
"Yeah, look at her! Doesn’t she seem insane? Babbling incoherently."
Some people were skeptical and sneered. "Ha, she's probably just pretending. Didn’t she just trick everyone earlier? No one even noticed she was faking it! This woman is the best at deceiving people."
"Right? How can she forget about getting hit but remember to eat?"
The crowd began to chatter excitedly, each person chiming in with their opinions. The police officer watched Zhang Yan's behavior with a furrowed brow.
If she really had gone mad, that would complicate matters significantly.
Interrogation would yield no results.
Wen Qian heard a noise and took a few steps forward, peering through a gap to see Lu Yao and Zhang Yan. Zhang Yan, in particular, was huddled behind Lu Yao, muttering nonsensically.
Furrowing her brow, Wen Qian scrutinized the scene. Had Zhang Yan really lost her mind? This woman was indeed the best at acting; she could twist words to make the false seem true. If it weren't for her talent in deception, how could she have escaped? How could that man have let his guard down and not tied her up?
The police had brought Lu Yao and Zhang Yan back to the station, along with two witnesses who had reported the incident. Everyone was buzzing with speculation, but with the main characters gone, people began to disperse in small groups.
"Scammers really have their tricks down, even fooling hospitals. What were they thinking?" one person remarked. "Honestly, I almost believed them when I saw how pitiful they looked together. It made me feel terrible; I nearly fell for their scam."
"Everyone should be careful from now on," another added. "Alright, I'm off. My little grandson is waiting for me at home!"
Wen Qian, along with Lu Zheng and Lu Chen, also left. She felt somewhat distracted, pondering whether Zhang Yan had truly gone mad. Zhang Yan was someone who valued her reputation; the likelihood of her pretending to be insane in public seemed slim. Yet, for the sake of survival, she could very well resort to such tactics.
As they walked on, Wen Qian spotted a man smiling as he quietly pulled out money from his pocket. A corner of his pocket was visible, revealing it stuffed with cash. She recognized him; he was someone she had just seen at the hospital entrance. He was none other than...
