Cuihua quickly released her grip on the area she was holding, her eyes widening as she saw her son's foot stretching out in front of her. Fear gripped her; she was terrified of being kicked, and in her panic, she missed her footing and tumbled down the slope. 0

"Ah! Help me! Son, save me!" 0

Cuihua rolled uncontrollably, sending up a cloud of dirt from the slope. Zhang Yan, unable to maintain her balance due to Lu Yao's restless movements, struggled to support him. She had already exhausted herself from the long trek they had taken earlier. 0

Watching Cuihua slide down the hill, Zhang Yan nervously swallowed hard, her legs trembling. Just then, Lu Yao's weight shifted beneath her, causing her to kneel down suddenly. He winced in pain, his body going limp as he was thrown off balance when Zhang Yan bent down. 0

"Ah, help! Save me! Zhang Yan, hurry and catch me!" 0

Zhang Yan barely managed to avoid disaster by pressing both hands and knees against the ground. The sounds of chaos continued from downhill, mixed with Lu Yao and Cuihua's curses and cries for help. 0

Zhang Yan stood frozen in shock, beads of sweat rolling down her forehead and dripping onto her face. The sweat stung her eyes; she blinked rapidly as pain shot through them. 0

Shaking, she raised a hand to wipe her eyes. Once she cleared the tears, it felt as if she had just come back to reality. Her body felt weak and limp as she sank down onto the ground, gasping for breath. 0

Huffing and puffing! 0

Her breaths echoed loudly in the stillness of the mountain, accompanied by the rapid beating of her heart. She stared wide-eyed at the slope below in terror. 0

Beside her lay a lantern that Cuihua had dropped, casting a faint light that illuminated her pale face and trembling body. 0

At that moment, sounds from downhill still reached her ears—Lu Yao and Cuihua were still shouting—but soon after, silence fell over the slope. 0

Zhang Yan swallowed nervously again and slowly rose to look down the mountain; it was pitch black, and nothing was visible. 0

She picked up the lantern and cautiously made her way down the slope. This was the steepest part of the path but also an unavoidable route. 0

With each step she took, anxiety bubbled within her as she observed the marks left behind on the ground. A sense of dread crept into her heart. 0

Why was there no sound? Not a single noise remained. 0

Suddenly, she spotted a dark figure ahead. She hurried a few steps closer and shone the lantern on it—there lay Lu Yao. 0

Seeing his tightly shut eyes, she shook him vigorously. "Lu Yao! Lu Yao! Wake up! Wake up!" 0

Lu Yao lay motionless on the ground; if it weren't for the warmth still emanating from his nose, she would have thought he was dead. 0

"Mother! Where is Mother?" 0

Without a second thought for Lu Yao, Zhang Yan got back up and continued downwards. After walking a short distance, she finally spotted another shadow and rushed over to find it was Cuihua. 0

She let out a sudden sigh of relief, looking at Cuihua, who seemed unresponsive. Zhang Yan shook Cuihua gently, "Mother, wake up! Hurry! Your son has fainted, Lu Yao has fainted!" 0

Usually, whenever Cuihua heard about Lu Yao, no matter how busy she was, she would rush to see what was happening. But now, Cuihua remained unresponsive, showing no signs of waking up. 0

Zhang Yan held a lamp and shone it on Cuihua, suddenly noticing something dark beneath her head. Gathering her courage, she cautiously reached out to touch it. It was damp and warm. She held her hand under the light and gasped in shock as her eyes widened. 0

Blood—it's all blood! 0

With all her strength, Zhang Yan turned Cuihua over and saw a pool of blood beneath her head. She touched Cuihua's forehead and brought her fingers to her nose; instantly, fear overwhelmed her and she let go. 0

Cuihua fell with a thud back onto the ground, her head striking the stone below, causing even more blood to flow. 0

Terrified, Zhang Yan sat on the ground and scooted back, gasping for breath, too frightened to look at Cuihua's face. She stood up and crawled over to Lu Yao's side, noticing that his foot injury seemed worse; blood was flowing more profusely now, and even his other leg was twisted at an odd angle. 0

"Lu Yao! Lu Yao! Wake up! I beg you!" 0

Zhang Yan looked around frantically at the dark forest and the rustling leaves; various animal sounds echoed in her ears. The metallic scent of blood filled the air, making her tremble with fear as she averted her gaze from Lu Yao. 0

"Don't attract the wolves!" 0

She needed to find someone—yes, she had to go down the mountain to get help for them. 0

Zhang Yan hurriedly prepared to descend when she suddenly felt a grip around her ankle. Her eyes widened in terror as she froze in place, trembling uncontrollably. Slowly, she turned her head downwards. 0

She was almost crying from fright; she had heard stories about unclean spirits haunting the mountain at night. Surely she wouldn't be that unlucky! 0

An urgent need to relieve herself hit her; she gritted her teeth and tried to hold it in. Closing her eyes tightly, she suddenly looked down and opened them again—only to find it was Lu Yao. 0

She exhaled sharply in relief and quickly crouched down beside him, pulling him close as tears streamed down her face. "You scared me to death! I thought I was going to die from fright!" 0

"You finally woke up! You have no idea how scared I was!" 0

Lu Yao's throat felt dry as he hoarsely asked, "Where's Mother?" 0

Mother fainted down there, and I was just about to go down the mountain to find someone to save you! 0

You take a moment; I’ll go down the mountain to get help for you. 0

As Zhang Yan was about to leave with the lamp, Lu Yao stopped her. "Leave the lamp here; otherwise, you won’t find us when you come back up." 0

At this moment, Lu Yao couldn’t care about anything else. He cursed Lu Zheng in his heart, that bastard leading him into the mountains. If it weren't for him, he wouldn't have ended up in this situation. 0

Zhang Yan opened her mouth to say something but seeing Lu Yao insist on taking the lamp, she could only nod in agreement. 0

Making her way down the mountain in the dark, she stumbled along the path, tripping every few steps. She could only move slowly; everything around her was pitch black, and she couldn’t see anything. If it weren't for her familiarity with the village, she might not have made it there at all. 0

When she finally reached the village, she was covered in mud, her hair disheveled, and her frantic steps made her look like a vengeful spirit come to collect a life. 0

She shouted loudly, "Help! Help! Someone come quickly! There’s been a death!" 0

"Help! Help!" 0
