Outside the brightly lit corridor, Du Hengyan stood with his arms crossed, facing several subordinates from the gambling house. In the center stood Ling Yun.
With an apologetic expression, Ling Yun slightly bowed and said, "I truly apologize, Boss Du. Recently, the rain has been frequent and the humidity high. Being a coastal island, the climate here is quite unsuitable for the young lady, who has a delicate constitution. I had intended to discuss this with you earlier, but the gambling house has been exceedingly busy, and I couldn't find the time."
As he spoke, Ling Yun handed a herbal bath package to the tall and stern man before him. The package emitted a faint herbal fragrance.
"This is a special herbal bath package we use on the island to treat such allergic reactions. If you let the young lady use it for a couple of days, she should feel better. However—" Ling Yun hesitated.
Du Hengyan frowned slightly and said in a deep voice, "Speak your mind."
Ling Yun continued, "While taking the herbal bath, it may be quite itchy, so someone needs to watch over the young lady to prevent her from scratching the affected areas."
Du Hengyan nodded slightly to indicate he understood and then instructed, "Have someone change the bedding in my room to new ones."
After saying this, he took the herbal bath package from Ling Yun's hands and turned to enter his room. His tall figure disappeared behind the door, leaving Ling Yun and the others in the corridor speculating about what unusual relationship existed between Boss Du and the young lady he brought.
The lights in the corridor remained bright, witnessing all that had transpired and adding a touch of mystery to what was yet to come.
On the bed lay a beautiful woman with her eyes tightly closed. Her exquisite features were gently illuminated by the soft light, captivating anyone who beheld her.
"Darling," Du Hengyan murmured as he slowly approached the bedside and sat on the edge of the bed, gazing affectionately at the beauty before him.
Zhi Mu Jiu seemed to sense his call and softly responded with a gentle sound.
She furrowed her brow slightly, as if enduring some discomfort. Du Hengyan looked at her with a mix of concern and affection, softly saying, "Let me hold you while you take a bath; it will make you feel better, won't it?"
Chi Mu Jiu was lost in a half-dream, half-awake state, yet she instinctively nodded in agreement. Her voice was light but carried a hint of fatigue and submission. At the same time, her long, thick eyelashes fluttered slightly, as if revealing her inner unease.
Du Hengyan keenly noticed that her complexion seemed off, and his heart tightened. He reached out to touch her forehead and found it slightly warm. "Sick again," he murmured to himself, worry etched across his face.
At that moment, Chi Mu Jiu's consciousness was hazy; she could only vaguely hear Du Hengyan whispering beside her, but the words were indistinct. She wanted to open her eyes, but her body felt bound by an invisible force.
Then, she felt a wave of warmth enveloping her as Du Hengyan gently lifted her from the bed. She stirred slightly and called out, "Du Hengyan."
"I'm here, sweetheart. Are you awake?" he replied tenderly as he carried Chi Mu Jiu into the bathroom.
The warm air washed over them like gentle waves, instantly wrapping Chi Mu Jiu in its embrace. "Be good; let me help you out of your clothes so we can take a medicinal bath," Du Hengyan said with genuine concern.
Hearing the words "medicinal bath," Chi Mu Jiu finally managed to open her sleepy eyes a little wider.
Her gaze fell on the bathtub, where water had already been filled, floating on the surface were some herbs that emitted a faint herbal fragrance.
"Du Heng, are you trying to marinate me?"
