At that moment, the Fat Man also heard the explosion from the other side of the river and hurried to the gym to find me. 0

I took a look at the Jiangbei District across the river through my binoculars. I could see sparks flying from gunfire, the flames shooting out from the muzzles, but I couldn't make out any specific figures. The distance was still too far; after all, these binoculars were just something I had picked up at a convenience store—civilian-grade with limited range. 0

The gunfire on the other side indicated that there were still living people in Jiangbei District. This meant that we were not alone in the city center. The gunfire continued, and the Fat Man and I observed closely. From the sound of the shots, he deduced that they were likely all automatic weapons, either submachine guns or assault rifles. 0

In this current disaster scenario, only two types of people could be using such automatic weapons on a large scale: either government forces or groups from the underworld. Other irregular troops might have guns, but they definitely wouldn't have such concentrated firepower. At this point, we couldn't determine which group it was. 0

If it was confirmed to be government forces, then they were certainly still carrying out rescue operations, meaning there might be quite a few survivors on the other side. If military rescue efforts were ongoing, didn't that imply that the evacuation points in the suburbs were safe? Did this mean that the United Government was also functioning properly? Perhaps my earlier speculation had been overly bold. 0

Suddenly, I thought: if we moved quickly, could we catch up with the military's rescue efforts? Could we retreat to the outskirts alongside them? I shared my thoughts with the Fat Man. He considered it and said, "Hey, that's a good point! If we head over there now and catch up with the military rescue, we won't have to waste our time." 0

I added, "But what if it's not the military and instead some underworld group?" 0

Upon hearing this, the Fat Man chuckled and shook his assault rifle in his hand. "What are you afraid of? We have one too! If it really is some friends from the underworld, I might even know them." 0

His confidence encouraged me, and I decided to go check it out together. After making our decision, we started packing our gear for departure. 0

While organizing our equipment, I suddenly thought of something and said to the Fat Man, "By the way, shouldn't we give them a heads-up before we go over? What if it really is a military rescue? If we cross over and they’ve already left, wouldn’t that be a wasted trip?" 0

The Fat Man considered my point and replied, "How are we supposed to notify them? There's a river in between us, and they're in the middle of a firefight right now." 0

I explained, "From Luminous Tower to the opposite bank is about three kilometers away based on my previous observations. At this distance, there are two ways for them to notice us: either through high-powered sound transmission or long-distance light signaling." 0

"Sound transmission? Hey! The Luminous Tower we're in—didn't you say there's a broadcast center here?" he exclaimed. "We can just turn on Broadcasting and Television to call out to them!" 0

The Fat Man seemed to realize something and continued speaking. 0
"That won't work, it won't work. If we broadcast it, the sound will be too loud, and it'll definitely attract all the zombies around to the Luminous Tower." 0
"So our best option is to use long-distance light signaling to draw their attention," I said, impressed by how quickly the Fat Man reacted. 0
"What’s long-distance light signaling?" The Fat Man looked at me with a puzzled expression. 0
"You've seen city laser beams, right?" I explained. 0
The Fat Man shook his head. 0
"Damn it, I mean those laser lights that shoot up into the sky on highways," I clarified again. 0
"Why didn’t you just say that earlier? You had to make it sound so complicated," the Fat Man laughed. 0

I had often seen the city laser beams from the Luminous Tower before. Every night, the lights on the Luminous Tower would turn on, illuminating the area with a dazzling display that was quite lively. The tower was named "Luminous Tower" precisely because of its striking lights that caught everyone's attention. Xiao Tian told me that the city television station and Broadcast Center were located above the one hundred twentieth floor. We promptly set off for the television station and Broadcast Center. 0

Due to the high number of floors, we decided to take the elevator this time. The elevator moved quickly, and there were no issues along the way; we soon reached the one hundred twentieth floor. Since we didn’t know exactly where the light control center was located in the Luminous Tower, we had to start searching around. 0

During our search, we inevitably encountered some monsters. The Fat Man took the lead without hesitation, slicing and dicing his way through them with various flashy moves. We also let Xiao Tian practice a bit; her strength had improved since she first started, making her dual-wielding skills much better than before. 0

After searching three floors, we finally found the lighting control room on the one hundred twenty-third floor. Since none of us had dealt with this before, we didn’t know which switch controlled the laser beams and ended up flipping all of them on. I checked the time; it was around five-thirty in the afternoon, and due to the overcast sky, it was getting darker outside. 0

Once all the lights were turned on, the entire Luminous Tower lit up brilliantly with neon lights flashing everywhere. We then went through each switch again, turning them off one by one while observing which lights outside extinguished as a result. Finally, we found the switch that controlled the laser lights. 0

After adjusting two beams of orange-yellow lasers, I asked the Fat Man to help aim the projector at Jiangbei District on the other side of the river and immediately shot both beams across. The Fat Man occasionally adjusted the projector's position, causing those two beams to wobble in mid-air like they were dancing, which was quite amusing. 0

The battle was still raging on across from us; it seemed like they were facing quite a few monsters over there, I thought to myself. The Fat Man shook the projector left and right again, making both laser beams sway back and forth on a tall building across from us. 0
"Hey, Lao Bai! Look at my dancing skills!" he joked while moving the projector back and forth playfully. 0

Just as he was having fun, suddenly two green laser beams shot back at us from a skyscraper on the other side as if responding to our earlier greeting. These two green laser beams also danced back and forth on Luminous Tower as if they were joining in a dance party. 0

I looked at the scene with the Fatty, and we immediately became excited. It seemed that the people across from us had noticed us and were already starting to greet us. Xiao Tian was even more thrilled, bouncing up and down on the spot. 0

"Awesome! Awesome! Uncle Fatty's call pose is the coolest!" Xiao Tian laughed as she unconsciously swayed to the rhythm of the laser beams, twisting and turning as she danced. 0

Seeing the response from across the way, Fatty quickly shook the launcher again. The current scene felt like we were having a massive dance party, each of us flashing our laser lights across the Songming River, which was quite amusing. 0

Just as Xiao Tian was having a blast, we suddenly heard a "whoosh" sound coming from the opposite bank. Something very bright was rapidly flying toward Luminous Tower. 0

I grabbed my binoculars but couldn't keep up with its speed. I noticed Fatty was staring intently at that object in the sky, his eyes wide open. Suddenly, he shouted, "Get down!" 0

At his shout, I quickly hugged Xiao Tian, who was still swaying left and right, and we both dropped to the ground. Then I saw a streak of fire zoom past our window on the 123rd floor, crashing directly into the square south of Luminous Tower. 0

With a loud "bang," a massive explosion erupted, deafening us with its roar. Sparks shot into the sky, and with a loud crash, many windows of Luminous Tower shattered. 0

I was stunned, still trying to process what had just happened. Fatty suddenly cursed loudly, "Damn it! Those bastards over there are firing at me!" 0

I asked him, "What was that just now?" 0

Wiping the cold sweat from his forehead, Fatty replied, "That was a 120mm shoulder-fired rocket!" 0

I walked to the window and looked down. The square to the south had been blasted into a large crater, leaving me momentarily dazed by the sight. 0

At that moment, Xiao Tian suddenly tapped my shoulder and pointed toward the street in front of South Square, anxiously saying, "Brother Bai, look! Look!" 0

Still staring blankly at the crater below, I was jolted awake by her urgency. Following her finger's direction, I saw that not far in front of South Square on Central Avenue, groups of monsters were rapidly converging toward Luminous Tower. 0
