Xu Xianzhi's eyes flickered with a hint of guilt as he raised his voice, "Of course, they are patients! What else would bring you to this clinic if not for the patients?"
Song Feiwan wore a smile that was neither here nor there, choosing not to refute his claim. Today, she donned a dress made of cotton in the color of moonlight, with a loose waistline and fitted cuffs for ease of movement. Since her marriage, her hair was styled in an elegant updo, adorned only with a simple red hairpin, and she wore no earrings. Her understated makeup highlighted her delicate features, making them appear even more refined.
With her dark, clear eyes and rosy lips, her cool complexion radiated a calmness that seemed beyond her years. She stepped down the stairs in her embroidered shoes and approached the row of stretchers, inspecting each patient in turn.
"Liver disease, kidney disease, heart disease, leg ailments," she recited as she passed each one, identifying their conditions. "It's quite impressive how you've gathered such a diverse group of patients for me."
Xu Xianzhi interjected, "I’ve already told you these are the household servants that the master values!"
Rong Anning could no longer hold her tongue. "Well, that truly is unfortunate."
"Miss Rong!" Xu Xianzhi exclaimed.
Song Feiwan paused before the last female patient. The woman's exposed skin had a bluish tint, and she was drooling, teetering on the brink of unconsciousness.
"Poisoning," Song Feiwan stated calmly.
Gasps of surprise erupted from those around them. "You can tell just by looking?"
Xu Xianzhi's brow twitched; he felt as though Song Feiwan had uncovered something significant. However, with his father—the Crown Prince—facing repeated setbacks, he had to restore the family's trust in him!
Resolutely, he declared, "This person simply overindulged; she must have eaten something bad! Dr. Song, why don't you take action quickly?"
The urgency was palpable among the other patients; however, Song Feiwan knelt down to examine the woman’s mouth and nose before checking her pulse.
Then, with deft fingers, she produced a silver needle and targeted an acupoint before swiftly inserting it!
The woman who had been on the verge of fainting let out a groan and coughed up a mouthful of black blood! With great effort, she lifted her eyelids; her pupils were clouded but gradually cleared after half a stick of incense had burned.
"Wake up, wake up!" Rong Anning couldn't help but look at Song Feiwan with newfound respect and asked, "Is this all it takes?"
"Of course not." Song Feiwan fixed her gaze on the servant's eyes and inquired, "What did you eat?"
The servant quickly glanced at Xu Xianzhi and replied in a low voice, "Just... just some undercooked food."
"Are you sure it was only food?"
"Absolutely!" She rolled her eyes dramatically, then suddenly cried out in pain, "Doctor, my insides hurt so much! Please help me!"
"I can't save you."
As soon as Song Feiwan said this, Xu Xianzhi's face lit up with joy. "Great! The book says you're a quack who can't even treat food poisoning!"
"Shut up." Song Feiwan shot him a glare, causing Xu Xianzhi to shiver involuntarily and fall silent.
Meanwhile, the poisoned servant panicked. "Doctor, how can you not treat me?"
"You've been poisoned. If my clinic ends up with two corpses, how can I possibly help you?"
"Poisoned? I haven't!" She clutched her abdomen, horrified at the accusation.
"It's just food poisoning; it shouldn't dissolve your bones. Can you feel your hands and feet?"
The servant's face suddenly paled as she raised her hand, realizing that her palm felt soft and mushy, as if the bones inside had turned to liquid!
If that's the case, wouldn't all her bones rot away?
And what about the baby in her belly? That was dangerous too!
But she had only followed the instructions of her mistress and eaten some mushrooms!
Song Feiwan jabbed a few more needles into her, then pulled out a blackened needle tip for her to see, confirming that she had indeed been poisoned with a bone-dissolving toxin.
Who wanted her dead?!
Song Feiwan stood up, looking down at her from above. "Today, whether I treat you or not, someone wants you dead here. Because only a corpse can keep the secret safe."
