As Tong contemplated this, her expression grew even more grim.
Previously, she had not regarded the Ruan family, ordinary people in her eyes, and had never considered that they might survive. If it weren't for the sudden recollection of Ruan Fuxi's surname today, she wouldn't have investigated their family background at all.
Tong couldn't help but recall the dream she had six months ago. She remembered being pierced through the heart by an arrow, yet she could not see who had killed her. All she recalled was that in her final moments within the dream, she saw the Ruan family from the capital.
A dream might seem insignificant, but the feelings within it were particularly vivid. As someone who practiced cultivation, Tong suspected that this dream was a hint from the heavens. Thus, she etched it into her memory.
Even if it was just a dream, Tong could not tolerate the thought of such a fate awaiting her in the future. However, at that time, she was still at the sect and could not descend the mountain at will. Additionally, there was an unspoken rule within the Xuanmen that they should not act against ordinary people without cause.
Moreover, after investigating the Ruan family's situation, she found them to be merely wealthy commoners with no ties to the mystical arts. This led her to lower her guard and refrain from taking direct action. Instead, during one of her opportunities to enter the realm of spirits, she issued a bounty task.
She thought that there was no way the Ruan family could escape. To her surprise, not only did they survive, but a Ruan Fuxi also emerged to confront her.
Tong couldn't help but wonder: if the dream were true, could it be that the person who killed her with a single arrow was Ruan Fuxi? Yet she quickly dismissed this notion. Ruan Fuxi only knew a bit about fortune-telling; in terms of cultivation level, she certainly could not compare to Tong.
How could someone like her possibly pierce Tong's heart with an arrow? If anyone were capable of such a feat, it would be Sheng Yanzhou by her side; there was some possibility there. But both she and Sheng Yanzhou were at the Foundation Establishment stage—killing her so effortlessly would not be easy.
Furthermore, why would Sheng Yanzhou want to kill her? She believed that once he got to know her better, he would realize who truly deserved to stand by his side.
Tong shook her head, preparing to visit the Ruan family in Jing personally to see what was really going on. She immediately bought a plane ticket to Jing, but before she could even enter the neighborhood where the Ruan family lived, she was stopped.
Looking at the security guard in front of her, Tong's expression darkened.
"Let me in," she demanded.
The guard, noticing that she was a young woman with an attractive appearance and decent attire, maintained a polite tone. "Miss, may I ask if you are a resident here? If so, you can enter by swiping your card or using facial recognition."
Tong remained silent, her face cold.
Realizing she was not a resident, the guard continued, "Are you here to visit a friend? You can have your friend come down to meet you or tell me which unit they live in."
Still, Tong did not respond.
The guard pressed on, "If neither of those is the case, I'm sorry, but I cannot let you in. It's my job."
He stood firmly at the security booth, blocking her completely. He was a diligent guard and would not let anyone in just because they looked harmless.
Tong's expression hardened; she regretted not using magic earlier. Now that she was being watched, even if she wanted to do something, it would be too obvious.
With a composed face, she turned to leave. Before departing, she shot the guard a cold glance. Then, with a subtle movement of her fingers, she secretly cast a spell.
