Fu Xi immediately saw the problem and successfully resolved the predicament. This was enough to demonstrate her abilities. Moreover, the country was currently in need of talents in this area, so naturally, the conditions were favorable.
Ruan Fu Xi nodded. "Alright, I can join."
Su Shi was delighted upon hearing this. "That's great! When you have time, come back to Beijing. I'll introduce you to everyone and show you around."
Ruan Fu Xi replied, "Sure."
The next morning, Ruan Fu Xi found Sun Fan. Both he and the photographer had dark circles under their eyes, but they looked relatively energetic. The two had gone to the market before dawn to buy a freshly slaughtered pig, cow, and sheep.
They also brought along incense, paper money, wine, and fruits, waiting in an open space. After Ruan Fu Xi arrived, she instructed them to arrange everything on the table and lit three sticks of incense before burning the paper money.
Once the offering table was set up, Ruan Fu Xi gestured for them to kneel. "Alright, go ahead and kneel."
Sun Fan and the photographer immediately knelt before the offering table. "Great-grandma, what do we do next?"
Ruan Fu Xi said, "You need to start apologizing sincerely and ask for forgiveness from heaven."
Sun Fan's face fell. "But I don’t know what to say."
Ruan Fu Xi raised an eyebrow. "So you want to die instead?"
Sun Fan's expression suddenly became serious.
I suddenly knew what to say.
Ruan Fuxi looked at the two, who were tense, and said, "As long as you are sincere, just speak your mind."
Hearing Ruan Fuxi's words, Sun Fan and the photographer relaxed. They knelt before the offering table and immediately began to sincerely repent.
"Oh heavens, I know that what I did before was wrong. I shouldn't have acted recklessly, committing taboos and angering the deities. Today, I kneel here with genuine remorse. I promise to change my ways and hold reverence in my heart; I will never dare to do so again. Today, I have brought three offerings and fruits for sacrifice. Please forgive my past sins!"
As they spoke, both of them were on the verge of tears.
Suddenly, a gust of wind arose, causing the incense and smoke to sway in the air, as if they were about to be blown away.
Seeing this, Sun Fan was puzzled. "Great-grandmother, what does this mean?"
Ruan Fuxi replied, "It indicates that the heavens are not entirely satisfied with your performance."
Upon hearing this, Sun Fan almost cried out. "What should we do? If they are not satisfied, does that mean we might still die?"
Ruan Fuxi comforted him, "Don't worry. You two just continue to repent; I'll take care of the rest."
Then Ruan Fuxi spoke loudly, "Humans are not sages; who can be without faults? Though these two have committed many mistakes in the past, they have now awakened to their wrongdoings and deeply understand their sins. The three offerings and fruits show their sincerity. I hope the heavens will show mercy and grant them a chance for redemption. If they are given life, they will surely reform themselves and do good deeds to atone for their past sins."
As soon as Ruan Fuxi finished speaking, the wind gradually calmed down, and the clouds parted. The incense and smoke slowly rose toward the sky.
Ruan Fuxi turned to the two with eager expressions and said, "It worked."
Sun Fan and the photographer were filled with excitement and immediately bowed deeply to Ruan Fuxi.
Ruan Fuxi quickly dodged.
