Bai Tong remained unconvinced.
Humans and ghosts walk different paths; they are not of my kind, and their hearts must be different. Ghosts are deceitful and hypocritical. As practitioners of the righteous path, we should naturally subdue demons and capture ghosts to uphold justice.
Zhou Yi still disagreed somewhat.
This Bai Daoist was being too dogmatic. There are good people and bad people among humans, and naturally, there are good ghosts and bad ghosts as well. How could one indiscriminately eliminate them all?
Seeing her disapproval, Bai Tong recalled that she had just left her sect and needed to build relationships with her fellow practitioners. Thus, she took a step back and said, "However, Zhou Daoist, since you have a kind heart, let’s do as you say and help those ghosts who have harmed others find peace."
Zhou Yi nodded slightly.
"I'll take care of the exorcism; the rest will be up to you."
She wasn't as powerful as Bai Tong and might not be able to defeat that ghost over two hundred years old.
Bai Tong had no objections. She positioned herself in the center of the villa and began to exorcise the ghosts without further ado.
Holding a peach wood sword, she coldly commanded, "Come out! No ghost can escape my grasp."
A baby's laughter echoed through the villa, and blood-red footprints appeared on the ground, stepping closer to Bai Tong.
Her expression turned icy.
"Just a minor trick."
She swung her sword down.
The baby's laughter abruptly ceased, replaced by a mournful wail.
Suddenly, the lights in the villa began to flicker, going dim and bright in rapid succession, accompanied by the sounds of a baby crying.
Bai Tong suddenly sensed something amiss; she dodged to the side just in time as an attack grazed past her ear.
Her expression darkened completely.
"Damn little ghost! You refuse to drink the toast and instead seek punishment!"
Bai Tong gazed at a certain spot within the villa and struck out with her sword once more. In the next moment, a blood-eyed infant girl appeared. The corners of her mouth were split open as she crawled swiftly towards Bai Tong.
Bai Tong snorted coldly. "With your strength, you think you can harm me? What a delusion." She then advanced to confront the little ghost, determined to disperse its spirit.
The ghost child sensed the threat and let out a piercing scream mixed with cries. Zhou Yiren, who was in the midst of performing a rite, couldn't help but cover his ears and glance over. He shook his head in disbelief. How could such a small child have turned into a vengeful spirit?
Just as Bai Tong was about to plunge the peach wood sword into the infant's body, a female ghost appeared and quickly scooped up the child. The female ghost appeared to be around thirteen or fourteen years old, dressed in ancient attire, with a beautiful face and a gentle demeanor.
Bai Tong frowned. "So you are this little ghost's mother?"
The female ghost nodded. "My daughter is lively; it was wrong of her to offend the Celestial Master. I will teach her properly in the future. Why not let her go?"
Bai Tong let out a cold laugh. "Dream on! You harm lives here; I will not only eliminate this little ghost but I won’t spare you either." She charged forward again.
Upon hearing that Bai Tong intended to harm her child, the female ghost was instantly enraged. She lost her rationality, her black hair grew wild, blood streamed from her five orifices, and her eyes were filled with nothing but white as she glared darkly at Bai Tong and Zhou Yiren. These two were intent on harming her child; they both deserved to die!
On Monday, Zhou Yi felt a tightness in his chest: something was wrong.
