Gong Le was anxious to get the results, so he paid the expedited fee without hesitation. Just three hours later, the identification report was delivered into his hands.
Without delay, Gong Le opened several reports. Unsurprisingly, the results matched exactly with those his eldest son had given him. Gong Le's expression darkened like water, and he gritted his teeth as he squeezed out a few words. "Qi Hui, you truly are something."
He then took the report and called Gong Changshun to accompany him to the hospital where Qi Hui was staying.
When Qi Hui saw the two of them, she was pleasantly surprised. She appeared gentle and caring, and her frail demeanor made her look quite pitiful. "Honey, what brings you here? I'm fine; it's just that company matters are more pressing right now."
However, this time when Gong Le saw her, he no longer felt the same heartache as before. His expression was indifferent, and he remained silent.
Qi Hui noticed his demeanor and felt a bit flustered, unsure of what had gone wrong. She mentally reviewed recent events but couldn't find any mistakes on her part, so she tried to calm herself down. Perhaps it was just because of company matters that he seemed upset.
On the other hand, Gong Changshun looked at her with a face full of anger and concern. "Mom, who dares to hurt you? I'll go chop them up!"
Qi Hui shot him a reproachful glance. "I know you're worried about me, but you shouldn't say things like that. You're just too impulsive."
Gong Changshun suddenly remembered something and snorted disdainfully. "Mom has been seriously injured, yet some people don't even bother to come see her. I bet they're off having a good time somewhere."
His words were directed at Gong Changle. Qi Hui glanced at Gong Le again and found his expression still indifferent, making it hard for her to read him. The strange feeling in her heart deepened; she couldn't shake the sense that something significant was about to happen.
Gong Le cast a cold glance at Gong Changshun. His son could be as carefree as he wanted, but what did it have to do with a wild child?
Qi Hui keenly caught that look, and her heart sank. She immediately turned serious and said to Gong Changshun, "What are you saying? Speak respectfully to your elder brother!"
Gong Changshun was dissatisfied and stubbornly retorted, "That's just how it is! He does nothing all day. Just a couple of days ago, when he had a car accident, Mom rushed to see him right away. Now that you're injured and in the hospital, he hasn't even bothered to check on you."
Qi Hui felt a surge of anxiety and instinctively tried to stop him from continuing. Despite Gong Le's apparent distance from his eldest son, she knew deep down that he still cared for him.
But it was too late for Qi Hui to intervene.
Gong Le let out a cold laugh as he looked at the incessantly chattering Gong Changshun and slapped him across the face.
"Shut up!"
Gong Changshun fell silent.
He looked at Gong Le in disbelief, his eyes wide open. "Dad, you hit me."
Gong Le's voice was icy. "Don't call me Dad; I'm not your father."
Qi Hui was also stunned. She wanted to say something but froze when she heard Gong Le's words, cold sweat breaking out on her forehead.
What did Gong Le mean by that? Was he just angry, or did he know something?
Qi Hui dared not think further. If Gong Le discovered her biggest secret, what would she do?
Gong Changshun, confused and furious, shouted loudly with a flushed face, "Dad, I'm not wrong! Mom is hurt like this, and he doesn't even come to see her. Why are you still protecting him? Is it wrong for me to say this?"
"Mom is right; as long as Gong Changle is alive, he will always be an obstacle."
"Gong Changle should just die."
