Qi Hui knew that Gong Changle had acted out of frustration after consulting an online fortune teller. While Gong Changle was on the call for divination, a close friend in her circle had shared the link to Xili Li's live stream, informing her about what her eldest son was up to.
On the way to the hospital, Qi Hui wasn't worried about Gong Changle's injuries; her concern was more about the fortune-telling streamer, Xili Li. Having been part of the socialite circle for years, she had connections and was aware that Xili Li was not an ordinary streamer. She knew that the person's real name was Ruan Fuxi.
Qi Hui was also familiar with online trends. Recently, she had heard about the sensational survival reality show "Island King," and she knew that Ruan Fuxi not only had a loyal fanbase online but was also the girlfriend of the wealthy Sheng Yanzhou. Clearly, Ruan Fuxi had some genuine skills in fortune-telling.
The fact that Gong Changle had connected with her surprised Qi Hui. She felt a wave of unease wash over her as she contemplated the implications. She understood that Ruan Fuxi was someone she could not allow Gong Changle to get too close to. Some things were absolutely not meant to be discovered.
With this thought in mind, a glint of determination flashed in her eyes. When she arrived at Gong Changle's hospital room, she put on a worried expression and pushed the door open.
"Changle, I heard you were in a car accident. You nearly scared me to death!"
Gong Changle was furiously sending private messages to Ruan Fuxi when he heard her voice. He quickly turned off his phone and looked up, appearing more obedient than he did during the live stream.
"Mom, I'm fine. The doctor said I can be discharged in a couple of days."
Gong Changle glanced behind Qi Hui, hoping to see someone else, but felt a twinge of disappointment when he realized it was just her. However, his mood lifted again; at least his mother had come to see him.
Qi Hui stood beside the bed without even sitting down on the chair in front of it, merely exchanging a few concerned words.
"Oh dear, how could this happen? Your father and brother both said they wanted to have dinner together as a family. We were really looking forward to it."
Gong Changle felt a bit downcast at her words. Naturally optimistic by nature, he quickly shook off his gloom and replied:
Sigh, it's just my bad luck. I'll eat next time.
Though he said this, Gong Changle knew it would be a long wait until he could have another meal with his father. His dad had never been close to him; instead, he was always very attentive to his younger brother. Gong Changle understood that the family business would eventually be passed down to his brother, and his father had never considered leaving anything for him. After all, he was born under an unlucky star, and misfortune seemed to follow him around.
Even though Gong Changle knew that his parents favored his brother, he still hoped for some concern from his father. So when he saw that only Qi Hui had come to the hospital, he couldn't help but feel a bit sad.
Qi Hui's expression remained unchanged, her smile perfectly crafted to convey both worry and anger. "You need to take care of yourself in the hospital. Your dad and brother are too busy at the company to come see you."
Gong Changle had heard this line many times before; he knew it was just an excuse. He nodded, looking rather listless.
"I understand, Mom."
Seeing that he didn't seem seriously ill, Qi Hui felt a twinge of regret. She then said, "I have things to attend to, so I’ll leave for now. You should focus on getting better and be more considerate. Don’t make your dad and me worry."
Gong Changle felt a bit uncomfortable hearing this, but considering she was his mother, he still replied listlessly, "Don’t worry, Mom. I won’t go out these few days."
