Shirley’s implication was clear; she suspected that Ruan Fuxi had set a trap, deliberately prompting Gao Biao to say such things in order to frame her. Yet, despite her reddened eyes and trembling fists, her stubborn demeanor evoked sympathy from some online users, and her fans began to defend her.
“Shirley is so pure and kind-hearted; she donates to charity every year, even abroad. I can’t believe she would be so malicious.”
“Shirley makes a good point. Is it possible that Ruan Fuxi and Gao Biao are in cahoots to frame her?”
Ruan Fuxi watched Shirley with a hint of interest in her eyes. Are you suggesting that I went through all this trouble just to slander you?
Shirley, like a delicate white lotus swaying in the rain, replied defiantly, “Xiaoxi, I know you won’t admit it, but I truly won’t deny that I didn’t do anything.”
Ruan Fuxi smirked and gestured to Gao Biao beside her. Gao Biao immediately understood; it was time for him to take action. He quickly pulled out his phone from his pocket.
“I have evidence that it was Shirley who instructed me to do this. I have her bank transfer records saved here, along with recordings of our conversations.”
As a staff member of the production team, he always carried his phone with him. Without giving Shirley a chance to argue, he opened the recording of their conversation.
“The snake has arrived; what’s next?”
“Follow the plan. The two million final payment has already been transferred to you. I’m telling you, there can’t be any surprises; she must be eliminated!”
Shirley’s voice echoed from the phone, reaching the ears of viewers through the live stream.
“This is solid proof, sisters! Shirley is truly a venomous woman!”
“She didn’t expect this security guard would keep evidence.”
“This is hilarious! She acted so well just now; I really thought she was wronged for a moment.”
“Shouldn’t we call the police? She needs to be locked up immediately!”
Shirley’s face turned pale as she realized she had been recorded. Damn it!
Gao Biao’s voice continued to resonate:
Shirley was at a loss for how she had managed to evade the program's inspection. She had violated the rules by bringing a communication device to the island, and it was through this phone that she had transferred money to me.
Struck as if by lightning, Shirley's expression was one of panic, and she couldn't think of a way to salvage the situation. All she could do was maintain a pale face, continuing to wear an expression of grievance and hurt, looking as if she might crumble at any moment.
At that moment, the director of the program, Wang, was cursing Shirley in his mind before he unhesitatingly called the police. Fortunately, Shirley wasn't a major draw for this variety show; even if she withdrew midway, it wouldn't significantly impact the program.
Ruan Fuxi looked at Shirley and let out a light laugh. "Engaging in illegal trade of precious and endangered wildlife, along with your involvement in intentional homicide—Shirley, you should really think about how to deal with the police now."
Shirley remained stubborn. "I didn't do anything."
Inside, she was anxious and terrified. What should she do? The viewers online had all witnessed this scene; how could she extricate herself from it? She lowered her head, glaring resentfully at Ruan Fuxi and Sheng Yanzhou. It was all their fault.
Noticing her gaze, Sheng Yanzhou furrowed his brow and said to a nearby crew member, "Keep an eye on her; we'll wait until later to call the police."
