Shi Wei instinctively wanted to refuse. He usually had little interest in such matters, believing that metaphysics was merely another form of science, a stance rooted in materialism. However, for some reason, when he heard Ruan Fuxi's words, his heart suddenly skipped a beat, as if a voice was telling him that if he missed this opportunity, he would regret it.
He also recalled the recent rise in Ruan Fuxi's reputation in the capital, with the Yu and Liu families expressing great trust and gratitude towards her. Thus, he paused for a moment and said, "Of course, then I will trouble Miss Ruan."
Shi Wei sat down again. He thought of it as giving face to the Ruan family; whether this divination was accurate or not didn't matter much.
Ruan Fuxi opened the payment code. "The fee for the divination is three thousand, Mr. Shi."
Shi Wei was taken aback for a moment before transferring the three thousand yuan. He felt somewhat uncertain and wondered if the fees for fortune-telling had really risen this high.
After receiving the money, Ruan Fuxi looked at Shi Wei's features and said, "Mr. Shi, you have lost a tooth and have a younger brother who is quite accomplished. I won't elaborate on these matters."
Shi Wei thought that those were all she had divined, feeling a bit regretful that he had spent three thousand yuan for nothing. But then he heard Ruan Fuxi change her tone:
"The color of your father's palace is dark and has scars, indicating that your father's health is currently poor. You should take him to the hospital for a check-up soon; otherwise, Mr. Shi, you might lose your father."
Ruan Fuxi spoke very directly, and upon hearing this, Shi Wei was startled, his expression turning somewhat grim. If someone else had said such a thing, he would have certainly lashed out at them.
Why would anyone curse his father to death like that?
But looking at Ruan Fuxi's serious demeanor, Shi Wei felt she must have some basis for her words; otherwise, if he took his father to the hospital and nothing was found wrong, her reputation as a master would be at stake.
Thinking of this, Shi Wei's expression grew serious as he stood up. "Miss Ruan, I will take my father to the hospital for an examination right away."
This time, Ruan Fuxi did not try to keep him but added another piece of advice: "Mr. Shi, you should pay attention to your cousin."
Shi Wei was momentarily taken aback, then recalled that the cousin she referred to must be Shi Lili. However, to others, Shi Lili was seen as his own sister, which is why he momentarily failed to react.
He walked out of the Ruan household in confusion, pondering the meaning behind Ruan Fuxi's last words. Why should he pay attention to Lili? Did she have the potential to do something detrimental to the Shi family?
Without delay, Shi Wei rushed home and took the old man Shi to the hospital for a comprehensive check-up. Just then, Shi Lili happened to come down from upstairs. Upon seeing Shi Wei, she immediately asked, "Elder Brother, did you go find Ruan Fuxi? It must have been her who trapped me! You have to teach her a good lesson!"
Shi Wei was anxious to take the old man to the hospital and only gave a brief response. "Who told you to follow them? Miss Ruan didn't know it was you in the car; this is all a misunderstanding. You don’t need to say any more."
Shi Lili frowned in dissatisfaction and then looked at him, asking, "Where are you taking Dad?"
Shi Wei replied, "To the hospital for a check-up."
At that moment, Old Man Shi interjected, "Why suddenly take me for a check-up? I had my regular health check-up recently and everything was fine."
Shi Wei wanted nothing more than peace of mind, so he insisted on taking him for a thorough examination. However, Shi Lili's expression changed dramatically. If her father's cancer were discovered and treated, wouldn’t that mean he wouldn’t die now? If he didn’t die, when would she ever get her share of the Shi family fortune? The monthly allowance she received was barely enough for her needs.
