Shirley had yet to realize that something was amiss; her face still wore a cheerful smile. She even flashed a smug grin at the camera, waiting for Ruan Fuxi to be exposed as a fraud. At that moment, she was sure that riding this wave of attention would boost her visibility significantly.
On the other end of the line, Old Master Shi let out a deep sigh. "Lily, how did you find out?"
Shirley froze for a moment upon hearing this. What did her father mean? Her fans were equally taken aback.
Something felt off—very off. They all quieted down, no longer daring to flood the chat with insults directed at the supposed fraud.
While Shirley was still in shock, Old Master Shi continued, "I had planned to take this secret to my grave and never tell you, but since you already know, I should reveal the truth."
Shirley's face paled slightly as her father's voice echoed in her ears. "Actually, I should be your uncle. Your biological mother is my sister. Unfortunately, she suffered severe complications after giving birth and didn’t survive. Your father was an orphan, and when you were three months old, he died in an accident. I couldn’t bear to send you to an orphanage, so I raised you myself."
The viewers in the livestream, especially Shirley's fans, were stunned into silence.
"What?! So she really isn't his biological daughter!"
"Wow! This is exactly what that fortune-telling streamer said—mother at birth, father at three months."
"Oh no! Why doesn’t the livestream have a rewind feature? I want to take back what I just said about the streamer!"
"Master! I was blind earlier; now I’m your most loyal follower!"
Meanwhile, Ruan Fuxi's fans watched this twist unfold with calmness. They knew their streamer was truly remarkable. Just another day in the life of a master.
Shirley’s mind echoed with the voice of the old man, speaking of severe postpartum hemorrhage, three months, and a car accident. It was all so simple, yet she felt as if she couldn’t comprehend it at all.
Shirley thought to herself that she must be dreaming.
“Lily,” the old man had said, “even though you’re not my biological child, after all these years, you’re just like my own. If you want to reconnect with your real parents, I can have your household registration moved.”
At those words, Shirley snapped back to reality. “No!”
If her household registration was moved, legally she would no longer be a daughter of the Shi family. What would happen when her father passed away? How would she claim her share of the family inheritance then?
Perhaps realizing her reaction was too intense, Shirley feigned sadness and explained, “You’ve raised me for so many years; you are my father. I still want to honor you!”
The old man chuckled at her response. “Good, good. But who knows how much longer this body of mine will hold up?”
Shirley recalled that he was ill this year but showed no signs of concern. She playfully scolded him, “Dad, don’t say that! You’ll live a long life.”
Inside, Shirley scoffed. He claimed to treat her like his own daughter, yet after his death in her previous life, he had only left behind a meager inheritance for himself.
After hanging up the phone, Shirley wore a mask of sorrow and pain as she glanced at the comments on the screen, gritting her teeth in silence.
“How’s that? Did you accidentally slap yourself in the face? Still calling our host a fraud?”
“Oh dear, I wonder who was so adamant about claiming she was the Shi family’s biological daughter.”
