After achieving her goal, Shili Li was about to leave the company when her manager suddenly remembered something.
"You just returned to the country. Although you've accumulated a bit of a fanbase, your exposure is still low. It would be best to boost your visibility before participating in any variety shows."
Shili Li agreed but noted that she wasn't currently taking on any acting roles aside from Wang Cheng's variety show, and she didn't have any other resources lined up.
"What do you suggest?" she asked.
Her manager reminded her, "Do you know about the streaming platform Shark?"
"Yes," Shili Li replied. Although she had been abroad, she was aware that Shark was the largest streaming platform in the country with an enormous audience. She also knew that Shark was owned by Sheng Yanzhou.
"There’s a fortune-telling streamer named Xili Li who has been gaining popularity on Shark these past few days. You might want to consider connecting with her to increase your exposure. Look, this is that streamer."
Shili Li glanced at her manager's phone, which displayed clips of Xili Li's fortune-telling sessions, and felt a sense of disdain.
"This is clearly a scam. Who would hide their face like that? I bet they have everything scripted out in advance, and soon enough, they'll start selling some ridiculous products to swindle money."
Her manager privately watched Xili Li's streams and disagreed with Shili Li's assessment. "How could anyone predict scratch-off lottery results or get someone like Young Master Qin to cooperate with her script? Besides, Young Master Qin's ex-girlfriend, Zhou Mian, really did get arrested."
The manager believed that Xili Li was a genuine master and even thought about buying charms from her once her online shop opened. However, she kept these thoughts to herself.
Shili Li had a proud personality and a bit of background; expressing such opinions wouldn’t endear her to anyone.
The manager put away her phone. "This is just my suggestion. Ultimately, it’s up to you."
Shili Li pondered over how easily Xili Li garnered tens of thousands or even millions of likes for just one clip. She hesitated; she didn't have that kind of traffic right now.
"Alright, I'll think about it."
Shirley turned away from the company.
Upon returning to the Shi family home, she saw her father basking in the sun.
“Dad, it’s so sunny outside. Why don’t you come in and rest?”
Old Man Shi glanced at her and smiled, “At my age, I just want to soak up some sun.”
Old Man Shi was a veteran who had retired from the battlefield. He used to live in a large compound and was friends with Old Man Sheng. Back then, the Sheng family also lived in the compound, and the two families were neighbors. However, the Sheng family later moved to their estate, and the Shi family relocated as well. Now they resided in a villa that Shirley's elder brother had bought for their father.
Hearing this, Shirley recalled that her father had fallen ill this year. What frustrated her was that he had left most of his inheritance to her two brothers, leaving her with only this villa, some jewelry, and five million. There was no share for her in the company.
Compared to the company's shares, what she received was nothing significant. Shirley forgot that the company had been founded by her two brothers and had nothing to do with her. Yet she felt that her father favored them over her as his daughter.
Even though Shirley knew her father had cancer, she didn’t remind him to go for a hospital check-up. She resented his favoritism.
She looked at Old Man Shi enjoying the sun but ultimately said nothing. After all, cancer couldn’t be cured; reminding him wouldn’t change anything.
Shirley turned back to her room and picked up her phone, where she received a message:
