The sound of the turtle echoed in her mind.
That Lin Xue'er had a strange soul, one that did not blend with this world. Ruan Fuxi furrowed her brows. A soul that did not merge with this world? Could it be that she had crossed over from another realm? Was she a character from a book, or just an ordinary traveler?
If she were a book character, she would likely seek out the male lead, not linger by her brother's side. After all, in the story, her brother's fate was far from good; he was a tragic supporting character.
From this perspective, it seemed Lin Xue'er was an ordinary person who had crossed over. As Ruan Fuxi pondered this, she heard the turtle continue speaking:
"Based on my observations, the closer she gets to your brother, the more she will absorb his fortune. So when she approached him, I bit her."
Ruan Fuxi gently patted its head. The turtle had done exceptionally well! She hadn’t noticed Lin Xue'er’s anomaly right away; perhaps it was due to her insufficient spiritual power and low cultivation level. She truly owed this to the turtle.
At that moment, in the Kangsheng Hospital of Jing City, Ruan Anmu stood beside the doctor after just finishing a surgery. Finally having a moment to rest, she took a deep breath and sat down at the entrance of the operating room.
Only after experiencing it firsthand did she realize how arduous being a doctor could be. During her internship at this hospital, she had already witnessed life and death, which weighed heavily on her heart. Yet this did not deter Ruan Anmu from her determination to become a doctor; if anything, it strengthened her resolve.
After resting for a while, Ruan Anmu recalled what Ruan Fuxi had said last night. Little Xi mentioned that there would be disasters ahead. But so far, nothing seemed to have occurred—could it be that Little Xi had miscalculated?
Ruan Anmu hesitated for a moment, then saw the doctor she had been following come out. She immediately approached him, wanting to ask a question about the surgery she had witnessed earlier.
However, just as Ruan Anmu took a few steps, she noticed a middle-aged man approaching from a distance. Despite the sweltering heat of over thirty degrees, he was wearing a long-sleeved coat, one hand tucked inside it, and the fabric looked bulging, as if he had something hidden there.
In a hospital, one could encounter all sorts of people, and this man in his long coat went largely unnoticed by others. Yet for some reason, Ruan Anmu felt an unsettling anxiety creeping into her heart. Suddenly, she recalled what Ruan Fuxi had said the night before.
She quickly wanted to pull the doctor away. "Doctor Yao, let’s talk somewhere else."
But just as she tugged at Doctor Yao and took a few steps, the middle-aged man quickened his pace, no longer trying to conceal his intentions. He pulled out a long knife from beneath his coat and lunged at them.
"You killed my mother! I spent so much money! Your hospital is just a scam! Die!"
The man's eyes were bloodshot, as if he had been deeply provoked. Without regard for anything else, he charged at Ruan Anmu and the doctor with the knife.
Ruan Anmu grabbed Doctor Yao and tried to dodge. However, the man cornered them into a small examination room where there was hardly any space to escape.
Someone nearby had already shouted for security, but witnessing the man's frenzy and the weapon in his hand, no one dared to intervene. In moments of danger, how many people truly have the courage to confront such threats empty-handed?
The man advanced step by step, shouting furiously: "Which one of you is the doctor? Who performed surgery on my mother? You are the ones who killed her!"
