The next morning, Ruan Huai was having breakfast at home. Since he had woken up too early, he was the only one at the breakfast table.
Ruan Fuxi had woken up late a couple of days ago and hadn’t run into Ruan Huai, so today she made a point to get up early to catch him. She casually remarked, "Brother, you've been busy lately. What time did you come back last night?"
Ruan Huai took a sip of his coffee and was a bit surprised to see her up so early. "Two in the morning," he replied, feeling a warmth in his heart at his sister's concern.
Ruan Fuxi seemed to want to confirm something and continued to ask, "Is there a lot going on at the company lately?"
Ruan Huai nodded. "There's a project we’re bidding on, so it's been a bit hectic. We just finished preparing all the materials last night."
Now Ruan Fuxi felt reassured. In the novel, her brother had first encountered an internal betrayal at the company, leading to a leak of sensitive information that resulted in the bid being canceled and significant losses for the company. Then, on his way home from work, he had been in a car accident and fell into a coma.
She figured this must be what was happening now. Knowing the plot, Ruan Fuxi was determined not to let her brother go through the same experiences as in the story.
So she deliberately fixed her gaze on Ruan Huai's face, adopting an enigmatic expression as she spoke in a profound tone, "Brother, I sense your aura has been weak lately. It’s clear that there are small schemers around you; this could affect the company's development."
Hearing this, Ruan Huai couldn't help but twitch his mouth. He thought to himself that it was good she was his sister; if it were someone else saying such things in front of him, he wouldn’t even bother to respond and might even send them to a mental institution.
However, he didn’t take her seriously at that moment. He assumed Ruan Fuxi had picked up some nonsense from somewhere and would probably lose interest in it soon enough.
"What’s a small schemer?" Ruan Huai asked, unable to resist her enthusiasm.
Ruan Fuxi replied with utmost seriousness, "It’s a combination of a petty person and a schemer; when you put them together, it becomes a small schemer!"
Zheng Dao said, "Brother, I'm serious. You have to believe me. The company is in a crucial bidding period right now, and we can't afford any surprises."
Ruan Huai followed up on her words, asking, "Oh really? Then tell me, who is this little schemer beside me?"
Ruan Fuxi confidently replied, "Brother, you belong to the Tiger zodiac, so that person should be a Snake. Snakes are known to counter Tigers. Plus, your fate is influenced by water, and earth counters water, so that person's name should have something related to earth."
Initially, Ruan Huai dismissed his sister's words, but after hearing her explanation, he suddenly recalled something and his expression changed.
There was indeed such a person in the company.
A couple of months ago, they had recruited a head for the marketing department. He wasn't sure if the person was a Snake, but his name was Du Rang.
It was as earthy as it could get.
Ruan Huai remembered him precisely because of his unusual surname. Regardless of whether the person matched what Xiaoxi had said, during such a critical time for the company, it was better to err on the side of caution.
Thinking this through, Ruan Huai immediately made a phone call. Still feeling uneasy, he decided to head to the company himself. He stood up and prepared to leave.
However, Ruan Fuxi stopped him again. "Brother, don't rush. I haven't finished speaking."
Ruan Huai paused and asked her, "What else did you figure out?"
With a serious expression, Ruan Fuxi said, "Your brow looks dark; today you might face some bloodshed. Brother, here’s a talisman for peace. Carry it with you for safety."
Hearing his sister mention bloodshed and looking at the simple talisman in front of him, Ruan Huai felt a mix of emotions.
Where did Xiaoxi learn all this? He wondered if it was reliable or just superstitious nonsense. Had he been neglecting her lately?
But no matter what he thought inside, Ruan Huai still accepted the talisman from her hand.
