The boss's face showed a mix of hesitation, and he didn't respond immediately.
Ruan Fuxi asked again.
It seemed the boss had made up his mind to take a gamble, his expression turning bitter. "Do you know any techniques for face reading or exorcism?"
Although the girl before him appeared young and didn't seem like someone who could draw talismans or read fortunes, he was truly out of options and could only give it a try.
Ruan Fuxi studied him carefully for a moment. "Are you asking about your granddaughter?"
The boss's face lit up with surprise, his heart convinced that this young person was indeed knowledgeable. "Exactly!"
He then picked up the little girl sitting on the stool, his worried expression directed at Ruan Fuxi. "This is my granddaughter. She's lively and active, but a few days ago, for some reason, she suddenly stopped talking. She doesn't respond much anymore and often drools."
As he spoke, more drool trickled from the little girl's mouth, and the boss skillfully took out a tissue to wipe it clean.
Ruan Fuxi looked at the little girl seriously before sighing. "She’s a poor child, having lost both her mother and father."
At this point, tears welled up in the corners of the boss's eyes. His surname was Lu, and he ran this antique shop, living a relatively comfortable life. However, fate had not been kind; after his daughter passed away, both his son and daughter-in-law were also gone. Now, all that remained were this shop and his granddaughter.
Listening to Ruan Fuxi's words made the boss believe even more that she was someone with real insight—someone who could see at a glance that his granddaughter’s parents were no longer around.
Standing beside Ruan Fuxi, Ruan Anmu revealed a hint of surprise in her eyes but kept her composure, not wanting to appear ignorant and embarrass her friend. She hadn't expected Ruan Fuxi to have such abilities; it was incredibly impressive!
The boss held his granddaughter tightly, his face filled with excitement.
"Master, could you please take a look at my granddaughter? I’m willing to offer any reward."
His granddaughter was the only bloodline he had left in this world. No matter the cost, he was determined to raise her well. Having run this antique shop for many years, he had saved some money; for his granddaughter, he would spare no expense.
Ruan Fuxi replied, "Find a quiet place; I will take a look." Since they had met, it must be fate, and it wouldn’t hurt for her to have a glance.
The shopkeeper was overjoyed at her words, knowing that the master had agreed to help. He immediately led them into the inner room.
Once inside, Ruan Fuxi instructed him to lay the little girl on the bed and prepare a bowl of rice along with a stick of incense. After the shopkeeper gathered everything, Ruan Fuxi placed the incense in the rice.
Ruan Anmu watched in astonishment as the incense suddenly ignited without any wind. In the next moment, the smoke began to swirl outward as if drawn by some unseen force.
Seeing the shopkeeper's confusion, Ruan Fuxi asked, "Have you offended anyone? Why would someone go after a child so viciously?"
The shopkeeper pondered her question seriously. Clearly, he valued this matter greatly. After sifting through his memories, he shook his head. "No, I conduct my business fairly and never deceive my customers. I get along well with all the old-timers around here; I don’t have any significant enemies."
After hearing this, Ruan Fuxi implied, "That means you’ve invited a wolf into your home."
Old Lu was taken aback by her words and pondered their meaning when he noticed the smoke in front of him beginning to change and sway slightly. The bowl of rice was also vibrating.
Ruan Fuxi chanted some profound incantation, and the smoke enveloped the little girl sitting on the bed.
