She waved her hand dismissively.
"I don't like this tree; get rid of it."
Then she pointed at the pond.
"The shape of this square pond is unattractive. Uncle Wang, have someone dig it into a round shape, and make sure the water isn't too deep."
A round pond, full like a half-moon, can help gather wind and energy for the household, attracting wealth and blessings.
Next, she pointed at another pond.
"I don't like this one either; have someone fill it in and plant some flowers instead."
The positions of these two ponds are not good; they could harm the health of the household's occupants, and any wealth would be wasted.
Ruan Fuxi couldn't help but suspect that the fate of the Ruan family in the novel was somehow related to the feng shui layout of this villa.
Once Uncle Wang had noted everything down, Ruan Fuxi checked other areas and felt relieved when she found no oversights.
That evening, when Ruan Jili and Lu Manyun arrived, they were surprised to see work being done in the garden.
"Old Wang, why is the garden being repaired again? Didn't we just do this not long ago?"
Butler Wang replied,
"The young lady said she didn't like it, so we brought someone in to plan some changes."
Just then, Ruan Fuxi came downstairs and met their puzzled gazes.
In a soft voice, she playfully said,
"Mom, Dad, those two trees are blocking my view! Plus, I like round ponds; my turtle likes round ponds too! I want to use that other pond area for planting flowers, so let Uncle Wang fill it in."
Ruan Jili and Lu Manyun had seen their daughter throw tantrums often during the day but hadn't witnessed her being so sweet in a long time. Upon hearing her words, they immediately softened their tone.
"Since it's what Xiaoxi likes, feel free to change the garden however you want. Should we find your turtle some companions?"
When it came to the turtle, Ruan Jili hesitated to speak but ultimately decided against it.
Brother Tian had called him earlier to say that Jiajia had come over to play with Xiaoxi and had been bitten by her turtle—quite badly enough to draw blood.
His words implied that he wanted him to discipline Xiaoxi properly.
Ruan Jili initially planned to bring it up with his daughter later at home, but seeing her obedient smile made him reconsider.
Xiao Xi is being so well-behaved now. Even if we take a step back, isn't Jia Jia at fault too? If she had no issues at all, how could the turtle Xiao Xi raised bite her for no reason?
Therefore, Ruan Ji Li chose not to bring it up.
Ruan Fu Xi smiled sweetly and said, "No need, Dad. The turtle likes peace and quiet."
Then she added, "Dad, actually I want to change the layout of the garden. I think the previous arrangement had some Feng Shui problems. Not only could it lead to financial losses for our family, but it could also harm our health."
Upon hearing this, Ruan Ji Li didn't take it too seriously; he thought she had picked up some unreliable knowledge from somewhere. However, when it comes to children, encouragement is key; he didn't want to dampen her enthusiasm.
"Ah, I see. Xiao Xi is really impressive," he replied.
Ruan Fu Xi could tell he was just being dismissive and couldn't help but feel a twitch at the corner of her mouth. Was he just trying to placate her like a child? But there was no rush; after all, she hadn't learned about metaphysics before. It was normal for no one to believe she was a master right away; they would have to take it slow.
"Dad, I'm serious," she insisted.
Ruan Ji Li chuckled, "Okay, okay, you're serious."
Since Ruan Huai was still at the company and Ruan Xun was busy rehearsing for the concert, only the four of them were at the dining table.
