"Very good, very good, you've done well," a strange and steady voice came. The three of them turned around abruptly, and a person with long flowing hair and wearing a black dragon-patterned robe walked out from the end of the grid.
God pendant is now in Ran Xing's hands.
"Who are you?" Shao Meng stepped forward to block Ran Xing and the other person.
"What, are you still so cautious of your teacher?"
The person just lowered his head for a moment and then appeared in front of Shao Meng, carefully examining the three people.
"Trial grounds, Temple of a Hundred Refinements, Guardian of God pendant, Yu Long"
The person shook their long hair, revealing a unique eye, staring at Ran Xing, and reached out a hand.
"Alright, your exam is over, Ran Xing, take out the God pendant and give it back to me."
When it comes to this point, Shao Meng still doesn't give an inch.
"How can you be so sure? Even if you are Teacher Yu Long, how can you prove that you are not an evil spirit in disguise?"
Shao Meng did not dispel his suspicion, standing in front of Ran Xing.
Yu Long immediately burst into laughter upon hearing this, "Good, indeed you are still worthy of praise. However, if I were fake, I'm afraid you would have already fallen, wouldn't you?"
Shao Meng was taken aback, but quickly realized,
"Anyone who can achieve this level inside the hall of Trial grounds is at least a Tai Chi practitioner."
"If you were going to make a move, I'm afraid we would already be nothing but bones under your feet. But since you haven't, it's because you haven't obtained the God pendant yet, right?"
Yu Long laughed heartily, raising a hand, and the flowing vitality made the three people feel difficulty breathing, causing them to kneel directly on one knee.
"Yes, but why did the God pendant fly to me on its own, Shao Meng?"
The stirring vitality suddenly subsided as Yu Long's hand came to rest on Shao Meng's shoulder.
"You did very well, your work is comprehensive and worthy of praise."
Teacher Yu Long
Several people were overjoyed, also listening to Teacher Yu Long's summary. Ran Xing simultaneously took care of his companions and the God pendant, contending with the evil spirit for the God pendant, and defeated the evil spirit, which greatly impressed Yu Long.
Meanwhile, Shao Meng's calm and composed style of action also caught Yu Long's eye. He disregarded his own safety when the evil spirit used himself as a hostage, in order to protect the God pendant for Ran Xing. Yu Long also took notice of this.
Even the somewhat gloomy Luo Yue performed well in the exam and, according to the rules of the palace, passed the teacher's test. This allowed him to stay in the hall indicated by the leaves of the divine tree as a knight, at the level of Four Phases. After becoming a Four Phases Cultivation practitioner at the Trial grounds, it is only the beginning of The path of cultivation.
"Alright, Ran Xing, open your hand and see what you're holding."
Yu Long remained calm, looking at the student's outstretched hand, the three of them stood frozen in place.
"How is this possible, God pendant?"
Ran Xing couldn't believe her eyes, Shao Meng was stunned, turned around to look at Yu Long.
The thing they had just fought so hard to obtain, how could it have turned into a stone? Shao Meng and Luo Yue both instinctively rubbed their eyes.
Once again, that laughter.
"The God pendant, it's something a knight must protect, and besides, I am the guardian of the God pendant, how could I possibly hand over the real God pendant to you?"
Yu Long opened his hand, and the God pendant slowly transformed and landed in his palm.
"The guardians of the God pendant, it will always manifest within their bodies. Only the protector of the God pendant knows how to retrieve it from within. This time, it is mainly for your entrance into the Temple of a Hundred Refinements examination. That's why I designed it this way, to see if you truly understand the mission of a hero."
While speaking, Yu Long continued to explain the mission.
"The Name of the Heroic Knight, for the sake of protection, it seems you already know this. Next, before you undertake your first mission, you will all undergo training at the Temple of a Hundred Refinements. Before we begin, as your teacher, I have also prepared a welcome gift for you, which you will see shortly."
Gift
Upon hearing Yu Long's voice urging the activation of vitality, three gifts appeared before the three individuals, allowing them to choose one as their enrollment gift.
These three gifts were all forged from the Trial Stone, consisting of a Bracelet, a pair of Earrings, and a set of Arm Guards.
This type of stone is said to be the purest and most flawless product from the Trial Grounds, forged by the Ancient Heroic Swordsman. For novice heroes, it can store the teacher's vitality for use in battles when necessary. Advanced heroes can fuse the stone with vitality to forge a God Pendant.
To forge a God Pendant, it requires three cultivators with a level no lower than Tai Chi to inject their vitality into the Trial Stone.
Ran Xing took the Arm Guards and put them on; they fit perfectly.
Luo Yue put on the Earrings and pulled Ran Xing closer, saying, "Ran Xing, help me take a look."
"Bored"
Shao Meng took the Bracelet and, using only vitality, made the Bracelet automatically return to its place on his wrist.
"Alright, do you like this gift?"
Yu Long looked at the students who had chosen their gifts and calculated as he activated vitality, creating a new scene.
First Lesson
The first lesson of the Martial Hero's cultivation is to understand vitality. Vitality is divided into five types: Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth, and corresponds to the eight trigrams of the I Ching. Different attribute Martial Hero have different nuances in their use of vitality. For example, the Water Attribute emphasizes continuity, while the Fire Attribute emphasizes strength and power. The Metal attribute focuses on perception, understanding all things through the heart.
As the foundation of Martial Hero techniques, vitality functions similarly to a person's breathing and luck. It is drawn from the external world through the body's meridians and released through them. Once one learns to control their breathing and luck, they can begin to release vitality for simple combat and practical training.
Thus, the first step of Yu Long's lesson begins in the illusion created by his vitality.
The illusion is called the Void. In this space, all movement relies on vitality, unlike the normal environment they just came from. Only by standing firm with vitality here can they discuss how to face enemies in the next step.
If one cannot pass the test using vitality here, they will need to relearn how to control it.
Yu Long's command was simple: use vitality to walk towards him against the external pressure of the Void.
In the Void, vitality also serves to protect normal breathing, which is not something that novice Ran Xing would easily think of.
However, for Shao Meng and her companion, it was also their first time here.
Ran Xing tried to take her first step but was quickly overwhelmed by the powerful airflow, struggling to breathe.
"I'll emphasize again, this trial is not just about walking. You need to learn to walk using vitality. If you don't use vitality to walk here, you will soon be pinned in place and unable to move."
Yu Long After emphasizing it once, he stood in place, looking at the three students.
Just as he finished speaking, Ran Xing collapsed to the ground because he hadn't used his vitality yet. He barely managed to stand up, closed his eyes, and stood in place, beginning to recall what was said in the book.
"No mind, only spirit, force from the ground up..."
The words and sentences from the book appeared in Ran Xing's mind. He closed his eyes, and blue light circles began to appear in his hands. Vitality had already started to operate.
Ran Xing took another step forward, feeling no more suffocating pressure. Walking became much easier.
The remaining two people quickly grasped the trick and caught up.
Next, Yu Long began his new test. In this void, he let these students try to catch up with himself using Moonshadow Dance, but he could slow down to let these beginners adapt to the rhythm.
"Since you have mastered vitality so quickly, I will give you a practical question. Start here and catch up with me using Moonshadow Dance while using vitality."
This subject made the three people's eyes light up.
"Teacher, do you also chase after evil spirits like this?"
Ran Xing Curiously asked, "Not only used for pursuit, but also for dealing with sudden situations. However, you won't be in contact with advanced footwork for now. The purpose of today's training is to maintain fast movement in complex terrains. Next, you will see new scenes, such as mountain peaks, icy surfaces, all of which can use vitality as your footwork to quickly find opportunities when encountering sudden situations."
As he spoke, the scene in the illusion also turned into a mountain peak.
Ingenious craftsmanship
Perhaps this term only appears when describing architecture or natural landscapes, but this time, what Yu Long is teaching is how to use these natural landforms, trees, and rocks as a better position relative to one's own position, in order to achieve the effect of stabilizing oneself with vitality.
Watching Yu Long facing a light ball spewed by an evil spirit, flying in a straight line with a flat knife, he directly leaped up, using the vitality gathered under his feet from the trees to form a barrier, and swallowed the attack of the evil spirit.
After demonstrating, Yu Long began to explain the principle.
"Vitality creates all things, so, in everything around us, there is the existence of vitality. When we are fighting against the evil spirit, vitality will help us find a better position, conceal ourselves, or evade attacks. Your second lesson today is to learn to walk with vitality, gradually adapting to increase your walking speed here, until you walk like the wind. Quiet your mind and feel the vitality around you. Do you understand?"
Yu Long finished speaking and then created a new evil spirit in the illusion, placing it in front of the three people.
In front of Ran Xing, the evil spirit launched an attack without hesitation.
Around him was an open space, with only the grass under his feet available for cover.
However, Ran Xing remained calm. He circulated his vitality throughout his body, quickly ran, and leaped to dodge the first attack from the evil spirit, landing on a large rock.
"Just now, the teacher used trees as a support. Can I also imitate it once?"
Shao Meng calmly activated Vitality, using the firewood picked up from the ground to form a barrier and forcefully take the hit.
"Not good!" Shao Meng rolled backward, his barrier clashing with the evil spirit's attack. Fortunately, he moved quickly; otherwise, he would have been knocked down.
The evil spirit intensified its attacks. Shao Meng relied on Vitality to dash forward, continuously dodging the evil spirit's strikes while searching for an opportunity to counterattack.
Luo Yue, utilizing her metal attribute perception, quickly pinpointed the location of the evil spirit in front of her. She activated Vitality to leap into the air, evading the evil spirit's attack.
The condition for ending the second lesson was that the three of them had to learn to use Vitality for rapid movement while seizing opportunities to attack the evil spirit in order to break Yu Long's illusion and return to reality.
Water Attribute: Rushing Flow
Ran Xing managed to reach a certain speed, but ultimately could not outmatch the evil spirit's instantaneous sense of smell. He was struck by an attack and fell to the ground.
The evil spirit sneered coldly, "Kid, running so fast must have cost you quite a bit of Vitality, huh?"
Then, raising his black hand, a sphere of purple light appeared, spinning above Ran Xing's head.
Just like mountains and rivers, although the water's vitality was struck by the evil spirit's attacks like a giant rock, the flow never stopped. As Ran Xing was sent flying, he closed his eyes, as if the contents of a book were resurfacing in his mind.
The evil spirit wasted no time and instantly followed up, and the two began to fight in mid-air.
Following the direction of the water flow would leave behind sounds; the higher one went, the more turbulent the water became, possessing greater impact. The sound could determine the enemy's position. Heng Lan was a technique for dissipating force using Water Attribute techniques.
At the moment the evil spirit threw a punch, Ran Xing, with his eyes closed, blindly received this punch, quickly grasping the evil spirit's hand and pressing it down while simultaneously delivering a vitality palm strike to the evil spirit's body.
Then Ran Xing began to accelerate, as if he were striking a wooden post at home. He was able to teleport short distances around the evil spirit, delivering punches from both in front and behind, knocking the evil spirit back down to the ground.
As the water flow quickened, so did the increase in impact. Ran Xing landed and opened his eyes, immediately activating vitality. Under his feet, an eight trigrams Tai Chi pattern formed, precisely as recorded in ancient texts: Water Attribute: Rushing Flow.
This move emphasized continuously increasing speed to strike the opponent while gradually amplifying vitality output. In a short time, multiple strikes were delivered to suppress the enemy.
Ran Xing initiated with Heng Lan again and swiftly turned to intercept the teleporting evil spirit. He spread his arms to block a punch coming at him and then pulled back his hand before quickly turning to strike at the evil spirit's back. Utilizing what he had just learned about vitality movement, he continuously pressed straight against the evil spirit.
The punches flowed like ancient texts described—endless as a river, wearing away stone with persistent drops of water.
Ultimately, the evil spirit fell under Ran Xing's suppression. Ran Xing also triggered the conditions for Fire to open a fantasy realm and returned to the Temple of a Hundred Refinements.
Meanwhile, the other two were still undergoing their second lesson's trial against the evil spirit.
