It was quite a surprise!
She was relieved that she didn’t have to take care of it herself. As night fell, Ruan Fuxi made her way through the cold pond and the mountains, and after meeting a bunch of adorable creatures, she spent the night at the Peach Blossom Village.
During her stay, her parents even sent a message asking about her, almost thinking she had run away from home. After Ruan Fuxi explained several times, they finally believed that she had genuinely stayed because she loved the scenery of the mountains.
The next day, Ruan Fuxi had the family driver come to pick her up at the foot of the mountain. After all, all her possessions were so limited that even hailing a cab was quite a hassle.
Once she arrived at the villa, only Ruan Anmu was home.
Seeing her, Ruan Anmu smiled and said, "You’re back, Xiaoxi! Mom and Dad were just talking about you before they left."
Although Ruan Anmu had just recently joined the Ruan family, she was gradually getting used to the atmosphere at home and liked everyone very much. After their heartfelt conversation last night, she decided to start calling them Mom and Dad. She cherished this bond of family.
Ruan Fuxi smiled back. "They were nagging about me for not being obedient, right?"
Then she asked, "Is there anywhere you want to go or anything you want to buy? I can take you."
Ruan Anmu shook her head. "The things my parents got for me have already arrived; I don’t lack clothes or jewelry."
Then she curiously asked, "Can you tell me about Mom and Dad's preferences?"
Since she had decided to become part of this family, she wanted to know more about them.
Ruan Fuxi nodded. "Of course!"
She sat down on the sofa with Ruan Anmu, and soon someone brought over a plate of freshly cut fruit.
Father loved antique collectibles, while Mother had a passion for jewelry. My older brother was a workaholic, always immersed in his job. During his leisure time, he enjoyed horseback riding and playing golf. Then there was my younger brother, who loved singing and performing on stage. You should already know that he is the popular singer Lu Xun.
Ruan Xun did not use his real name in the entertainment industry; he adopted our mother's surname and became Lu Xun.
Upon hearing this, Ruan Anmu nodded excitedly. "I know! My roommate is a fan of his and is always thinking about getting tickets to his concerts." Even if Ruan Anmu wasn't a fan herself, she knew how famous Lu Xun was. Having such a big star as a younger brother made her feel a bit thrilled.
Ruan Fuxi noticed that Ruan Anmu might be feeling a bit out of place in her new home, so she took the time to explain more about the Ruan family to help her settle in faster.
Ruan Anmu could see Ruan Fuxi's genuine effort and shyly looked at her, saying, "Thank you, Xiaoxi." After pondering for a moment, Ruan Anmu's expression turned somewhat sorrowful as she continued, "Xiaoxi, let me tell you about another part of the Ruan family—your biological mother's situation."
Hearing this, Ruan Fuxi listened attentively as Ruan Anmu began to speak. "When I was ten years old, my mother had an unfortunate car accident. My father was investigating the perpetrator but then something strange happened at home—there were no signs at all."
Ruan Anmu recalled her childhood with a heavy heart. "After my parents were gone, no one took care of me, and I ended up in an orphanage."
Although Ruan Fuxi had read about the protagonist's long history in novels, hearing it firsthand felt entirely different.
"Did your parents leave behind any inheritance?"
When Ruan Anmu heard this question, she thought of those cold and selfish so-called relatives. "How could they not have left anything? It's just that by the time it reached me, everything had already been taken clean."
