Ruan Jijian, the original protagonist's uncle, had a somewhat displeased expression as he stood up to help Cao Huirou to her feet. He then turned his gaze towards Ruan Fuxi, ready to give her a lesson. However, when he saw her clenching her fists and waving them in front of him, he felt a twinge of fear.
This stubborn girl, how could her temper have worsened so much in just a few days? In the past, she would at least listen to a few words; now she was ready to throw punches without saying anything. Had she lost her mind?
Before Ruan Jijian could speak, Lu Manyun interjected, "Sister-in-law, our Fuxi is still just a child. She may be a bit impulsive, but she means no harm."
Cao Huirou immediately grew anxious upon hearing this. "What do you mean 'child'? Is she still a child at ten years old?"
Just then, Ruan Jili chimed in. "Little Fuxi, you're almost ten now. You should learn to be more composed in the future. Don't act carelessly like today and accidentally bump into your uncle. Now sit down."
His tone seemed discontented, but anyone could hear the underlying protection in his words.
Cao Huirou was infuriated. "What do you mean by being more composed? What do you mean by accidentally bumping into him? Jili, why are you still indulging this wild girl? She’s no longer a member of the Ruan family!"
Ruan Fuxi looked at her surrogate father, the man who had doted on her for ten years. He was elegant and charming, a handsome gentleman. Then there was her mother, Lu Manyun, a mature and graceful woman. Even after learning that she was not their biological daughter, they still defended her.
Ruan Fuxi couldn't help but feel touched. She gently calmed the restless turtle in her arms that sensed the malice from others and took a seat next to her seemingly aloof and rebellious younger brother.
Ruan Xun glanced at her and let out a low grunt but ultimately said nothing.
Ruan Jili cast a faint glance at Cao Huirou.
It seemed that his sister-in-law was not in good spirits today, constantly speaking nonsense. "Brother, you should take her to the hospital for a check-up," he suggested, not allowing either of them to refuse. He instructed the butler to escort them out.
Cao Huirou's son and daughter, witnessing the scene, understood that their mother had angered their uncle today. They shrank back, not daring to speak, and quietly followed them out.
Cao Huirou couldn't comprehend why Ruan Jili, her brother-in-law, would treat her this way for a girl with no blood relation to him. Furious, she let her frustration spill out without holding back. "Ruan Jili, you ungrateful wretch! Have you forgotten how your brother treated you when you were young? If it weren't for him saving your life, would you even be here now? And yet you’re siding with that troublemaker Ruan Fuxi and driving me away from your brother. Sooner or later, she’ll bring ruin upon you!"
The rest of her words were muffled as Ruan Jijian covered her mouth, stifling her sobs.
Once they exited the villa, the room fell silent again. No one paid attention to Cao Huirou's words. Ruan Jili had built such a large enterprise on his own; he was known for his resilience. How could he let the words of an outsider create a rift with the daughter he had raised for ten years? Even though they had only recently discovered that she was not their biological child.
Thinking about Ruan Fuxi's temper, Ruan Jili deliberately hardened his expression, hoping to teach her a lesson and encourage her to change her ways.
He turned to Ruan Fuxi, ready to say something when he met her bright green bean-like eyes.
