Sheng Yanzhou stared at the empty chat box and replied, "No." The group leader, Meat Bun, truly couldn't understand this new member's intentions. "Let's wait and see. If she refuses to take on this task, I'll kick her out. But if she gives me her address, I’m curious to see what she looks like."
Sheng Yanzhou had little interest in online dating tasks. He didn't respond to Meat Bun and casually opened Ruan Fuxi's profile information. Looking at her age listed there, he thought to himself that she was still quite young. When he was in college, she was still in middle school.
He wasn't sure why she added him—whether she wanted to chat or was looking to scam him—so he typed a question mark and sent it over.
"?"
Ruan Fuxi picked up her vibrating phone. As she opened the keyboard, unsure of how to respond, her fingers instinctively sent a cat emoji instead.
Your little cutie suddenly appeared.
Ruan Fuxi stared at the cute emoji with wide eyes and immediately wanted to take it back, but unfortunately, she accidentally hit delete instead.
Great, her anxious heart finally settled.
Sheng Yanzhou raised an eyebrow: "Why did you add me?"
Ruan Fuxi had no choice but to steel herself and thought for a moment before replying, "Your little pig avatar is really cute."
Sheng Yanzhou's avatar featured a small animal buried in a cushion, its soft, chubby belly exposed. The most striking part was the way its belly hung down, looking so touchable. From Ruan Fuxi's careful observation, it seemed like a rather plump pig—similar to a pet piglet.
Sheng Yanzhou looked at Ruan Fuxi's reply and then glanced down at the cat named Puff resting on his lap. For a moment, he fell into silence. He didn’t know how to respond; it made him chuckle in disbelief.
His avatar? A pig?
He picked up his phone and aimed the camera at Puff's face, snapping a photo while pinching its cheek. "You need to lose some weight."
The fluffy cat rubbed against his hand, purring softly.
Ruan Fuxi was puzzled as to why the other person had sent her a picture of a cat. Was it just a proud pet owner wanting to show off their beloved fur baby?
Out of politeness, she replied, "Is this your cat? It's very cute."
She then clicked on the person's profile and was surprised to find that they seemed to be in their thirties or forties.
Sheng Yanzhou replied, "So this is the pig you mentioned."
Silence hung in the air like a late evening at Cambridge. Ruan Fuxi could almost feel the unspoken mockery from him.
Having spent years navigating the world of cultivation, her skin was thick enough to brush off any embarrassment.
"Haha, it seems your cat is well taken care of!" she responded cheerfully.
Sheng Yanzhou found her intriguing, a spark of curiosity igniting within him. Remembering what his friend Meat Bun had said, he raised an eyebrow and typed out a message.
"Did you see the task in the group? Send me your address, and I'll order you some takeout."
Ruan Fuxi glanced around; on her left was a mountain, and to her right, more mountains loomed. The sounds of chirping insects and clucking chickens echoed in her ears from the nearby farmstay.
This farmstay was already quite remote, situated on a mountain; let alone takeout, even thieves wouldn’t venture this far.
Thus, she quickly declined. "No thanks, I'm quite full from dinner."
This was true; although the taste of wild boar couldn’t compare to what she had at the Nine Heavens Sect's beast garden, it still had its own unique flavor. She had devoured five bowls of rice.
