Sheng Yanzhou:
"I don't know, I didn't do anything."
He had initially joined the friend group because his friend Doubao had dragged him in. He rarely spoke in the group and had no idea how this newcomer had managed to approach him.
At that moment, Doubao sent him a private message.
"Yanzhou, this newcomer is likely a scammer. Be careful and don't get fooled. I’ll kick her out of the group shortly."
Sheng Yanzhou didn’t think much of it. As he opened the friend request to reject it, his white cat, Puff, jumped onto his lap and affectionately rubbed against his hand, causing him to accidentally click on the button to accept the friend request.
Looking at the chat box that popped up with the message "You are now friends! Send a message," he fell into silence.
He gazed at Puff, who was still curled up on his lap, blissfully unaware and purring. Finally, he scratched the cat's chin and chuckled helplessly.
Sheng Yanzhou typed back to Doubao:
"I've accepted it."
Doubao was taken aback by this message.
"You accepted? Yanzhou, you mean you’re now friends with that newcomer?"
Could it be that after being single for so long, he finally wanted to date? What a cause for celebration! After all, Yanzhou had always been focused solely on work; he hadn’t even considered female friends before, let alone joining this friend group which he had been dragged into.
But soon, Doubao fell into a dilemma. The key issue was that this newcomer was a catfish. What if behind the phone was an older woman or man? Wouldn’t that leave a psychological scar?
After some thought, Doubao sent a message in the group.
"The newcomer has chosen Yanzhou as her partner! Everyone, don’t bother her anymore. So far, there are already ten pairs in the group. To promote mutual understanding and progress between pairs, we’re starting our first task: the male will order takeout for the female. Once completed, please check in with everyone in the group."
Then Doubao tagged Ruan Fuxi individually.
In this group, mutual friendship implied potential romantic relationships. The group leader would occasionally post tasks to encourage emotional development between pairs. If during this process anyone felt they weren’t compatible, they could abandon the task at any time.
The reason Doubao suddenly posted this check-in task was solely for Sheng Yanzhou’s benefit.
As long as this newcomer provided an address, they could have the delivery person sneak a photo while delivering the food. This way, they could find out whether this newcomer was male or female and what they looked like.
At that moment, Ruan Fuxi stared at the message that popped up in the chat box, falling into silence herself. After joining the group, she had sent a friend request to someone she found appealing, and by coincidence, it had just been accepted.
What was this supposed to mean? She didn’t want to get involved in an online romance, yet here she was, caught up in one anyway. The original owner of her account was truly something else.
She had only managed to connect with one person in this group. Meanwhile, someone in the chat noticed the message and expressed their dissatisfaction. After all, the number of women in the group was far fewer than that of men, and they certainly didn’t want to miss out on a newcomer with such an impressive figure.
“Who did you add as a friend? Why did you reject all of us for just one person?”
“Yeah, why not consider us too? Get to know some of the other guys, beautiful Tides.”
“Tides” was Ruan Fuxi’s online nickname. Without a second thought, she immediately hit the reject button.
