The people in the courtyard were delighted to see Shazhu, but Yan Bugui wore a grim expression on his face.
"That damned Shazhu! What have you been doing these past few days? Our restaurant has been forced to close because of you! You’ve ended up in jail, but what about our losses?"
Then Yan Bugui thought of Shazhu's house: "Jiefang, we can't suffer losses for nothing. Shazhu still has a house, right? Now that he’s been arrested, he should use that house to pay off his debts!"
Hearing Yan Bugui's words, Yan Jiefang was also tempted. He had long wanted to stop living in cramped quarters at home.
The Yan family immediately went to Shazhu's house and walked straight in.
As soon as they entered, they all rushed out, covering their noses. "What the hell is Shazhu doing in there? It smells terrible!"
"Just clean it up a bit and then you can move in!"
Yu was also feeling nauseated by the smell and was reluctant when Yan Bugui asked her to clean. However, thinking about how she could finally live in that spacious house after cleaning, she found some motivation!
Just as the Yan family arrived at Shazhu's doorstep, Jia Zhangshi noticed them. Hearing Yan Bugui say that Yu would clean the room and that it would belong to Yu and Yan Jiefang from now on made her furious.
"Yan Bugui, what do you mean by this? What are you doing at my Jia family’s place?"
Jia Zhangshi stepped forward and blocked Shazhu's door, questioning Yan Bugui and the others.
"Don't be ridiculous, this house has belonged to our Yan family since the beginning!"
Faced with Jia Zhangshi, the stubborn old woman, Yan Bugui still tried to explain.
"Shut your mouth! Who doesn’t know this house belongs to our Jia family? We lived here for over a year before Shazhu returned. Out of pity for him, we let him stay!"
"Now that Shazhu is in jail, this house should rightfully go back to the Jia family!"
Jia Zhangshi spoke with confidence, and if the people in the courtyard didn’t know better, they might actually believe her words!
This was a house after all; how could Yan Bugui possibly let it go?
"You’re the one talking nonsense! Do you really think that just because your Jia family took advantage of Shazhu being in jail to live in his house, it now belongs to you? Don’t forget how you were driven out by Shazhu in the first place!"
In response to Yan Bugui’s words, Jia Zhangshi shot back: "Yan Bugui, you say our Jia family can’t move in? Then why does your Yan Jiefang think he can move in?"
"Is it just because of Shazhu that Jiefang’s restaurant was shut down and fined five hundred dollars? Shouldn’t Shazhu compensate us for that?"
"I’ll tell you this, Jia Zhangshi: The losses caused by Shazhu to our family are far greater than just this one house! No one is more qualified than our Yan family to claim this house!"
Hearing Yan Bugui’s words made Qin Huairu scoff inwardly. "Shazhu is the one who ruined my life and passed on illness to me; no one deserves this house more than I do!" Unfortunately, she couldn’t dare to voice those thoughts.
She stepped forward and said, "Master Yan, who says we don't have the right to live in this house? Before he was captured, Silly Zhu said this house would be for the Jia family!"
"That's right! Silly Zhu even said it would be for the Jia family. What does it have to do with you, Yan family? You should hurry back to the front yard!"
Seeing Qin Huairu speak up, Jia Zhang also began to support her!
