Upon learning that Xu Damao had regained consciousness, the police arrived shortly after. This report was made by the hospital, as it was clear to them that Xu Damao had been assaulted. In such cases, hospitals are obligated to notify the authorities.
The police officer looked at Xu Damao with sympathy. "Comrade Xu Damao, we are from the Jiaokou Police Station. We received a report stating that you were attacked. Can you tell us if you lost any belongings?"

They believed that this retaliation against Xu Damao was somewhat deserved; however, as police officers, they had to assist him since he was ultimately the victim in this situation.
They suspected Shazhu was indeed responsible but had yet to summon him for questioning.
"Comrade He Yuzhu, I believe you know why we are here to see you," they stated when they found Shazhu at his courtyard.
To their surprise, Shazhu was quite brazen; facing the police, he readily admitted, "Ha! What else could it be? It’s about that scoundrel Xu Damao! Yes, it was me! I’ll go with you!"
As Shazhu followed the police away, the courtyard buzzed with excitement: “Who would have thought it was Shazhu who hit Xu Damao!”
"What’s surprising about that? Didn’t I say so before? It had to be Shazhu! After how Xu Damao humiliated him that day, it would be strange if he didn’t retaliate!"
"Arresting Shazhu is just right; now we won’t have to worry about him in the courtyard!"
