"Well, I must say, this person looks quite familiar!"
"Hey! Who are you? How did you end up in our courtyard? And why are you at Qin Huairu's house?"
Someone shouted at the man standing inside the house.
At that moment, the man, known as Sha Zhu, finally spoke up: "Why can't I come back to this courtyard? This is my home. Am I not allowed to enter my own house?"
"You’re talking nonsense! This is the Jia family’s place. When did it become your home, you adulterer?"
Hearing Sha Zhu's words, Jia Zhang quickly stopped her wailing. She stood up and began pointing at him, cursing.
With a swift motion, Sha Zhu slapped Jia Zhang to the ground. "Bah! Jia Zhang, say that again—this is your house? When did my family, the He family, become yours?"
"What? He is He Yuzhu?"
"That’s impossible! How could He Yuzhu be so old and so thin?"
Everyone's eyes widened in disbelief when they heard the man claim to be He Yuzhu.
Jia Zhang stared at Sha Zhu in shock. Then suddenly realizing something, she jumped up again and pointed at him. "Impossible! Where did this wild man come from to impersonate Sha Zhu? Sha Zhu was sentenced to ten years; he just got out now—how could he possibly be here?"
"Yeah, how could Sha Zhu be out? Is this person really an imposter?"
Some people surprisingly believed Jia Zhang’s words.
"What nonsense are you talking about? Who would impersonate Sha Zhu? Take a good look—doesn't this person look just like him? He just seems much older!"
After hearing this, everyone took a closer look and indeed found that the man resembled Sha Zhu quite a bit!
Could it really be Sha Zhu? But how did he get out? Did he escape?
As this thought crossed their minds, the crowd instinctively took a step back.
"Hey, Sha Zhu, you’re not really an escaped convict, are you? If that's the case, I advise you to turn yourself in quickly; otherwise, if the police catch you, it won't end well!"
Hearing their discussions made Sha Zhu's face darken. He quickly spoke up to clarify: "Can everyone stop wishing me ill? If you keep talking like this, I might as well be accused of murder and escape!"
"I'll tell you all—I'm out because the state realized my sentence was too harsh when I committed my crime back then; that’s why they released me! Look! This is my release certificate! So stop spreading rumors!"
Yan Bugui stepped forward to examine the release certificate. "Everyone relax; this certificate is genuine!"
Upon hearing that the release certificate was real, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Yan Bugui leaned closer to Sha Zhu and said, "Sha Zhu, being released early is great news! Why don’t you set up a few tables and invite these neighbors over to celebrate and ward off any bad luck?"
Shazhu realized that ten years had passed, yet Yan Bugui still seized every opportunity to take advantage of others. He flashed a grin at Yan Bugui and said, "Since you, Uncle Yan, want to host a few tables to help me ward off bad luck with the neighbors, how could I refuse you? Please go ahead and prepare; I will definitely be there!"
Yan Bugui was taken aback by Shazhu's sudden agreement. He rubbed his hands together in excitement and replied, "Don't worry, Shazhu! Your Uncle Yan will make sure everything is taken care of! How about you give me the money for the banquet first?"
