Last time, the people in the courtyard were clamoring for Yan Jiefang to treat them, and Yan Jiefang ended up clashing with Yi Zhonghai. Yi Zhonghai was never a broad-minded person! Initially, Yi Zhonghai thought of hiring some thugs to cause trouble at Yan Jiefang's restaurant. He didn’t need them to do anything specific; all he wanted was for these thugs to sit in the dining hall, casting sinister glances at anyone who came in to eat. Those patrons being stared at would surely feel uncomfortable, and some timid ones who didn’t want to stir up trouble might even leave without eating!
If Yan Jiefang called the police, the thugs could simply claim they were there to eat. Yi Zhonghai believed that Yan Jiefang wouldn’t be able to do anything about it. This plan was inspired by what he had heard from others in the courtyard about how to mooch off Wang Jiefang's meals!
He was confident that if these thugs caused a ruckus for a few days, Yan Jiefang’s restaurant would be unable to continue operating! However, when he prepared to implement this plan, Yi Zhonghai realized that hiring these thugs would cost him quite a bit of money. Reluctant to part with his cash, he abandoned this idea.
Later on, he thought that for a restaurant to succeed, it needed a good chef! So Yi Zhonghai, ever the schemer, set his sights on the chef hired by Yan Jiefang. After two days of investigation, he indeed found a weakness in this chef. It turned out that the chef had a hobby—he liked to seek out illicit affairs!
Yi Zhonghai threatened the chef, Chef Zhou, by saying he would inform his wife about his secret rendezvous if he didn’t leave Yan Jiefang's restaurant. Chef Zhou was quite afraid of his wife; although she appeared to be an ordinary woman, her strength surpassed his own, and she could be quite ruthless when angered! The reason he sought out these affairs was precisely because his wife was so fierce; it was in those secret encounters that he could experience rare tenderness.
Moreover, Yi Zhonghai only asked him to resign from his job. With Chef Zhou's skills, many restaurants would be willing to hire him, so he readily agreed!
Thus began the incident of Chef Zhou resigning!
Upon hearing this news, Yu Li and Yan Jiefang were furious and hurriedly went off to find another chef! Their restaurant needed to keep running; how could they manage without a chef?
In their haste, they struggled to find a suitable replacement. After a day of searching, they could only hang their heads in disappointment as they closed the shop for the day, planning to continue their search the next day.
Exhausted, Yan Jiefang and Yu Li returned home once more. Yan Bugui frowned as he looked at them: “What’s going on? Haven’t you found a chef yet?”
Yu Li sighed: “I don’t know how it happened. The discussions went well initially, but when I brought him in for a trial cooking session, he just took one look at the door and turned away!”
This was already the fifth chef they had encountered in just one week. Each time it was either because they didn’t like the name of the restaurant or they simply walked away after taking a glance!
It was driving me crazy! They hadn’t opened for an entire week now; every day they were still incurring expenses like rent!
Yan Bugui had also heard about the restaurant's profit situation. Now that it had been closed for a week, he figured they must have lost seven or eight hundred yuan!
In Yan Bugui's eyes, losing even a single cent made him anxious enough not to eat or sleep well—let alone seven or eight hundred!
He cast a complex glance at Wang Jiefang's house and helplessly said to Yan Jiefang, "Why don't you two go ask Wang Jiefang if he can introduce a chef? After all, he works as a chef and must know quite a few colleagues!"
