"Where did you get that flour? Where are you planning to take it?"
"I got it from the small storage room. I was going to take it home to eat!" Sha Zhu replied, still unwilling to reveal Qin Huairu's involvement.
The man with the square face felt that Sha Zhu's words were dubious. He asked, "Comrade He Yuzhu, as a cook, you shouldn't be lacking food, right? Why do you need to steal flour?"
"My leg has been injured for a month, and I couldn't come to work. The food at home ran out, so I thought of taking some flour from the kitchen!" Sha Zhu felt that his situation wasn't serious. Not knowing these two men well, he assumed they were also from the security department. Growing impatient, he added, "Why are you asking so many questions? I just took some supplies from the kitchen. Do you really need to interrogate me like a criminal?"
Just then, the inspector who entered slammed the table and said, "He Yuzhu, watch your attitude! Do you realize you're stealing company property? This is a serious issue!"
Upon hearing the word "stealing," Sha Zhu became indignant. "This isn't stealing! As the head cook, what's wrong with taking some ingredients? As long as the workers aren't starving, what's the problem? Besides, it's fine for the factory leaders to feast while I can't even have a little soup?"
At this point, both inspectors perked up at his words and looked at Sha Zhu. "So you're saying the factory leaders often indulge in lavish meals?"
Sha Zhu hadn't yet realized what he had said. He looked at them disdainfully and replied, "What are you two pretending for? We're all from the same factory; who doesn't know that our leaders love to treat others with lavish meals? And those meals are prepared by me!"
"Damn it! Today, Factory Director Yang treated everyone just because my apprentice cooked for him. He even scolded me!"
Meanwhile, Yi Zhonghai was running through the courtyard when he bumped into Qin Huairu at the entrance. Seeing him, she asked, "Elder Yi, have you seen Sha Zhu?"
Yi Zhonghai didn't have time to deal with Qin Huairu; he was about to continue running into the courtyard when he suddenly stopped and suspiciously asked her, "Why are you looking for Sha Zhu?"
Qin Huairu couldn't admit that she had asked Sha Zhu to steal some flour. She absentmindedly replied, "It's nothing; I'm just worried about Sha Zhu since his leg is still hurt!"
Yi Zhonghai didn't believe her excuses. He looked at her seriously and asked, "Huairu, tell me honestly—did you ask Sha Zhu to bring you leftovers?"
Knowing she couldn't hide it from Yi Zhonghai any longer, Qin Huairu nodded in acknowledgment. "Yes, Sha Zhu said he would bring me chicken and pork! But I didn't ask him for it."
"That's not important," Yi Zhonghai pressed on. "Did you only ask him for chicken and pork?"
Qin Huairu hesitated and didn't want to answer. Yi Zhonghai grew anxious and exclaimed, "Huairu! What time is it now? You still won't say? I'm telling you—Sha Zhu was taken away by security after work!"
Upon hearing that Sha Zhu had been taken by the security department, Qin Huairu's face turned pale. She cried out to Yi Zhonghai, "Elder Yi! I also asked Sha Zhu to bring me some flour from the small storage room... What should I do now?"
Qin Huairu was crying because she feared that Sha Zhu would betray her.
