Director Wang found it quite amusing to watch the two argue. Unexpectedly, as they bickered, they began to dig into each other’s pasts. Director Wang nudged Chief Zhang playfully, saying, “Look at you, Zhang! You’re even digging into my background now! You might as well give up on that idea!” 0

Wang Jiefang noticed that Chief Zhang and Master Qian were playing off each other, clearly working together for their own benefit. He couldn’t help but chuckle to himself, wondering when he had become so sought after. 0

Ultimately, though, the matter at hand was more pressing. Director Wang leaned closer to Chief Zhang and whispered, “I need to discuss something very important with you. Let’s go to your office.” 0

Seeing the serious expression on Director Wang’s face, Chief Zhang stopped joking around. He led Director Wang and Wang Jiefang to his office. 0

“Director Wang, what’s so important that you had to come all this way?” he asked. 0

Director Wang gestured for Wang Jiefang to speak. So, Wang Jiefang recounted how he had encountered enemy agents, how he had tracked them, which suspicious places he had observed along the way, and where he ultimately followed them to. 0

After listening, Chief Zhang scrutinized Wang Jiefang with a piercing gaze. Noticing this, Director Wang frowned and said, “What do you mean by that, Zhang? Do you not trust what Wang says?” 0

Chief Zhang quickly waved his hands in explanation. “Director Wang, it’s not that I don’t believe Master Wang; I’m just curious. According to what Master Wang said, he followed those enemy agents through eight alleys and discovered three hidden lookout points. To be frank, if that’s true, our officers would have a hard time ensuring they weren’t detected during such a tracking operation! How did Master Wang manage that?” 0

As Chief Zhang spoke about Wang Jiefang, he pointed at his own eyes, not wanting to say outright that he thought they were blind. 0

Hearing this made Director Wang curious too; she hadn’t considered how Wang Jiefang had accomplished such a feat while she was focused on listening during their street meeting. 0

Since Chief Zhang had asked the question, Wang Jiefang could only explain: “Well, as you can see, my eyesight is gone now. I mentioned before that because I can’t see anymore, my hearing and sense of smell have become much sharper! Yesterday, I followed them just by listening to their footsteps.” 0

Chief Zhang raised an eyebrow in disbelief. “You followed them just by listening to their footsteps? They never noticed you? How is that possible? If what you’re saying is true, then that enemy agent must be extremely meticulous and suspicious. How could he not notice someone following him?” 0

“Ha! I was four hundred meters behind him in broad daylight with various walls blocking my view; how could he possibly detect me?” 0

Wang Jiefang’s words shocked both Chief Zhang and Director Wang. “What! You’re saying you could hear their footsteps from four hundred meters away? And still keep up with them?” 0

“Exactly! In fact, I can hear them from a hundred meters away; but for safety’s sake, I kept my distance at four hundred meters.” 0

Wang Jiefang’s claim was completely exaggerated. While his hearing had indeed improved since losing his sight, being able to hear from a hundred meters away in such an environment was already impressive; claiming a hundred meters was pushing the limits of his current mental acuity. 0
