Director Wang personally led Wang Jiefang into the kitchen. The moment they entered, everyone inside, already informed by Director Wang, began to whisper among themselves upon seeing Wang Jiefang.
"I thought it was just a namesake when Director Wang said he was bringing in someone to try out as the head chef. I didn't expect it to be the real deal. Although I've heard he has a Level 5 chef certificate, he's blind now! Is Director Wang joking by letting a blind man into the kitchen?"
"Exactly! I've never seen a blind person cook before! What if he burns himself?"
"What are you all worrying about? Just look at this kitchen; there's no way he can manage!"
Wang Jiefang heard their words clearly and could also perceive the state of the kitchen through his mental energy. The scene before him was chaotic: pots and pans were scattered everywhere, ingredients were carelessly tossed in a corner, and various obstacles like chairs and misplaced tables cluttered the limited space. There were even vegetable leaves and water stains on the floor, and knives hung haphazardly on the wall!
Seeing this mess, a smile crept onto Wang Jiefang's lips. His grandmother and Sun Yumi looked at him with concern, but they didn't blame the street office staff for making the kitchen this way; they knew it was all for Wang Jiefang's benefit.
Director Wang beamed at her handiwork and turned to Wang Jiefang. "Jiefang, the kitchen is all yours now. Why don't you make some stir-fried shredded potatoes and braised fish? Remember, you have to choose the ingredients, wash them, and prepare everything yourself!"
She deliberately left out any mention of the kitchen's condition!
"Don't worry, Aunt Wang! I promise not to let you down!"
Hearing that a blind person was coming to try cooking, everyone from the street office gathered around to watch the spectacle.
As Wang Jiefang stepped into the kitchen, they began to murmur again. "I bet this kid is doomed! A blind man trying to cook? He'll be lucky if he doesn't trip over something in there!"
Just as they started their chatter, they watched in disbelief as Wang Jiefang skillfully navigated around one obstacle after another in the kitchen. During this process, he even straightened up a table and moved chairs out of the way!
"Wait, what? This can't be real! How does he know there are chairs in front of him? And how did he know where that table originally was?"
"Yeah! How does he know there are rotten vegetable leaves and puddles on the floor? He didn't step on any of them! And look at him go—he's even using a broom to clean up the mess!"
"Hold on a second... how does he know where I hid those potatoes? That was my secret spot! Oh my gosh, he found the fish too? Look at how confident he is; there's no way he didn't already know where everything was!"
At this point, everyone from the street office turned their gaze toward Director Wang. She quickly realized what they were implying and shot them an annoyed glare. "What are you all looking at me for? I'm busy here! I didn’t come into the kitchen myself! Besides, those ingredients were all placed by your kitchen staff; I have no idea what’s going on!"
The kitchen staff pondered for a moment and realized that Director Wang truly didn’t know where everything was placed. Moreover, she had insisted on arranging things according to difficulty; they believed she wouldn’t undermine her own authority!
"Is this really how a blind person should chop vegetables?"
Wang Jiefang washed the potatoes and placed them on the cutting board. With one swift motion, he retrieved a knife from the wall and then began chopping rhythmically! In no time at all, those potatoes transformed into fine shreds!
