A few women were gossiping at the entrance of the courtyard when one of them approached. Seeing the newcomer, Sister San greeted her with a smile, "Sister Hua, what brings you to our courtyard today? Are you here to matchmake for one of the young men?"
"Oh my, it's you, Sister San! You guessed it right; I'm indeed here for matchmaking!" The matchmaker replied cheerfully.
She couldn't help but feel delighted; it seemed that this matchmaking fee was practically being delivered right to her doorstep! She didn't believe the man would refuse.
Her words immediately piqued the interest of the others. "Sister Hua, tell us, who are you introducing from our courtyard? And who is the other party?"
The matchmaker was in a good mood today and said to them, "It's nothing much; I'm here to matchmake for Wang Jiefang from your courtyard! As for the woman, I can't tell you just yet!"
The matchmaker still had her professional ethics. If she revealed the woman's name before the engagement was finalized, it could cause trouble for her if things didn't work out. It might even affect the woman's reputation!
Upon hearing that she was matchmaking for Wang Jiefang, the women exchanged strange glances at the matchmaker. It was Sister San who spoke up again, "Sister Hua, but Wang Jiefang is blind. Aren't you just harming the woman by introducing her to him?"
Sister Hua waved her hand dismissively. "Oh, I know about Xiao Wang's situation too. Not only do I know, but the woman knows as well. To be honest with you all, it was actually the woman who asked me to connect with Xiao Wang!"
"Well then, sisters, I won't chat with you any longer. I'm off to find Xiao Wang and his grandmother!"
The matchmaker stepped into the courtyard. As a well-known matchmaker in the neighborhood, she was familiar with all eligible singles in the area. Originally, Wang Jiefang had been on her list of quality candidates, but once she learned he was blind, she had removed him from that list! She never expected that today she would be matchmaking for him.
"Who would want to marry that blind man?"
Once Sister Hua left, the conversation among the women shifted back to Wang Jiefang.
"Who knows? I suspect the woman is either a widow with children or has some issues herself!"
"Exactly! Who would marry a blind man? Unless she's someone so unattractive that no one else would want her!"
The women began speculating wildly as Sister Hua arrived at Wang Jiefang's door. "Oh my, Aunt Wang, what a joyous occasion!"
She called out as she stepped through the open door into Wang Jiefang's home. Grandma Wang recognized Sister Hua and understood her intent upon hearing her words.
She quickly stood up to greet her: "It's Sister Hua! Please come in and have a seat."
After Sister Hua sat down, Grandma Wang poured her a bowl of warm water with a spoonful of sugar added for sweetness!
Sister Hua took a sip and felt the sweetness on her tongue; she set down the bowl with satisfaction and smiled. "Aunt Wang, I assume you know why I'm here. I wanted to ask if Xiao Wang has anyone special in his life?"
Grandma Wang sighed heavily. "To be honest with you, Sister Hua, you know about my Jiefang's situation—how could he possibly have anyone?"
Sister Hua chuckled lightly. "No partner? Well then, to be honest with you, I'm here on behalf of the Sun family from Yuer Hu Tang Alley to inquire about your grandson's situation!"
Grandma Wang cautiously asked, "Sister Hua, could you tell me about the woman's family? Why would they be interested in my Jiefang?"
Understanding Grandma Wang's concerns, Sister Hua smiled and explained: "Aunt Wang, I understand your worries. To tell you the truth, the woman's name is Sun Yuwei. She has no issues whatsoever; in fact, she is exceptional both in appearance and character!"
