"Bah! Rude little brat, you deserve to be blind!"
Seeing Wang Jiefang ignoring her, Third Aunt spat at him in anger.
Wang Jiefang's grandmother happened to witness this and immediately confronted Third Aunt, saying, "Who are you calling a little brat? Don't you know why my grandson is ignoring you?"
"Are you blind? Do you think we're all fools?"
Third Aunt was caught off guard by the accusation and retorted angrily, "So what if I called Wang Jiefang a little brat? I'm at least his elder as the Third Aunt of this courtyard. When an elder speaks to him, he should show some respect! Isn't that just plain rude?"
"Elder? Ha! Since when did our Wang family have you as an elder? You're barely more than a neighbor, and a greedy one at that! Living next to your family is bad luck for us! So what if my grandson doesn't want to talk to you?"
Third Aunt was stunned by Wang Jiefang's grandmother's words. She couldn't understand why this usually easy-going old lady had suddenly turned aggressive, first against Jia Zhangshi and now with her.
When Jia Zhangshi had come over earlier, Third Aunt had noticed her swollen face shining from the beating. After inquiring, she learned it was Wang Jiefang's grandmother who had done it!
What Third Aunt didn't know was that Wang Jiefang's grandmother had her reasons. In the past, she thought of them as one big family living in the same courtyard. With just her and her grandson, she figured they could endure some losses as long as they could get by.
But now that her grandson was blind and these neighbors weren't helping but instead coming over to take advantage, she realized she had to be more assertive; otherwise, they might end up being bullied by certain people in the courtyard! Having lived there for so long, she knew very well what some of those neighbors were like!
Third Aunt was clearly in the wrong and didn’t want to be beaten like Jia Zhangshi. She turned and left quickly, thinking to herself that when Old Yan came home, she would definitely have a good talk with him and ensure that the Wang family would not have it easy in the future!
Inside the house, Wang Jiefang heard the exchange between his grandmother and Third Aunt. Seeing his grandmother hold her ground made him stay put; he sighed while sitting on his bed. He had only been in this world for less than a day and was already in conflict with the three families who were not easy to deal with in the courtyard. It seemed like life was going to get lively from here on out!
After that, Wang Jiefang had no plans to go out again. While organizing supplies in his space, he unexpectedly discovered many books neatly arranged on shelves. He recalled that he had collected them after casually entering a library before. Since he had space anyway, he figured these books might come in handy later!
He used his mental power to scan through them and found a comprehensive cookbook among them! In their time, various recipes were not really secrets; there were even online tutorials for cooking!
Wang Jiefang was already proficient in Sichuan and Shandong cuisines; now with this cookbook, he believed he could quickly reach the same level with other dishes too!
As he was looking through the recipes, he heard Yan Bugui's voice at the door!
Wang Jiefang pulled out a watch from his space and saw it was only around three in the afternoon—not yet time for school to let out. Yan Bugui must have left early again!
"I'm off to fish!" Yan Bugui shouted as he entered the house but was about to leave again!
"Hey! Old Yan, wait a minute! I need to tell you something!"
Third Aunt had been waiting for Yan Bugui's arrival and immediately called out when she heard him about to leave.
