In the noisy environment, it was impossible to distinguish who was who; Lin Yuan's target was not the people on the dance floor. He looked up, and the upper level was a private room. A waiter stood at the entrance of the room, with a sign on the door stating that no unauthorized personnel were allowed.
It seemed that this bar wasn't as lawless as it appeared. Lin Yuan had never been here before, but he quickly made his way to the bar. Knowing that this round was on the police department, he ordered a cocktail.
A few faces flashed through his mind as he waited. The bartender had tattoos on his arms and wore a simple black tank top. With a swift motion, he placed a light blue cocktail on the table without saying a word, pushing the glass toward Lin Yuan. Just as he was about to retract his hand, Lin Yuan caught hold of it.
The bartender paused for a moment, having previously overlooked this slender man, and began to size Lin Yuan up. He hadn’t seen him before.
"Is there something you need?" In the noisy bar, Lin Yuan heard this question distinctly.
He smiled and pointed upstairs. "I have a business proposition I’d like to discuss with you, but I don’t have the right connections. Could you help me out?"
As soon as he spoke, the bartender's demeanor changed; his eyes sharpened. "Where did you hear about this?"
"Just doing some digging around," Lin Yuan replied casually. "Can we work something out?"
The bartender didn’t immediately agree. Although Lin Yuan didn’t turn around, he could feel several gazes directed at him from behind.
"If you refuse me, you might regret it; I have something of value in my possession." Lin Yuan gestured as if indicating the amount of drugs he had previously seized from a dealer.
"How can I trust that you have that much?" The bartender clearly remained skeptical.
"You should know about those guys in the area, right? I have their stuff." Lin Yuan leaned in closer to speak.
So far, there had been no news from the police regarding Zhang Tui and his crew; they suspected there were others involved, and what he said now posed no issue.
Only then did the bartender take him seriously and signaled for others to leave first. "With your capabilities, you shouldn’t need to trade with us."
"I thought about it and realized that only someone upstairs could handle such a deal. Afterward, I can share my profits with you—how does that sound?"
The bartender calculated in his mind. If what this man said was true, he could potentially earn hundreds of thousands. He had heard that the goods in question were of very high purity.
After pondering for a few seconds, the bartender hesitated before responding.
However, there is not just one party above, but two, so you must choose carefully. He also needed to confirm that the other side could secure the funds.
Lin Yuan realized that he had a chance to go over, but he was somewhat surprised to find that there were actually two groups involved. Just now, Lu Zhigang had shown him the leaders of both factions. If so many people were talking, then the opposing side would likely have a significant number as well.
"Make sure your communication device is turned off; otherwise, you won't be able to bring it in later," Lin Yuan reminded himself.
He nodded in understanding. "Thank you for the reminder."
Under the guidance of the bartender, Lin Yuan easily made his way upstairs. The bartender noticed Lin Yuan's curious glances around but was confident that if this person was indeed some kind of spy, he could handle it.
Knock, knock, knock.
The crisp sound of three knocks brought silence to the discussion happening inside. The server at the door received permission and opened it, allowing Lin Yuan to clearly see everyone seated in the private room.
There were actually only a few people present. Compared to the photos he had seen, there were just two additional faces. After they entered, the server closed the door again.
The moment the door shut, all sounds from outside were almost completely cut off. Lin Yuan didn’t wait for the bartender to introduce him; instead, he introduced himself first.
"Ah haha! Brothers, I apologize for barging in; I might be disturbing you a bit. However, I do have something serious to discuss and would like to ask for your help."
With a flattering smile on his face, the tension in the private room eased slightly. The leader among them, Dong Ge, who appeared in the photos, glanced at the bartender and signaled him to speak.
"Dong Ge, weren’t we keeping an eye on something over in that area? This kid here hasn’t been caught by the police with it."
Upon hearing this, Dong Ge immediately became alert. He scrutinized Lin Yuan from head to toe; he indeed didn’t look like a police officer but rather resembled a young man fresh out of training.
"How did you find your way here?" Dong Ge asked.
Lin Yuan rubbed his hands together. "Well, I spent some money asking a few brothers in the underworld; I guess it was a lucky shot."
"If you want to see what I have, you might need to wait until tomorrow. I can't conveniently bring it with me today; this place seems quite like a legitimate bar," he added.
His words nearly made everyone in the room laugh. If this place was a legitimate bar, then what did that make them?
"Let’s not get sidetracked; how did you get your hands on that item? If it’s something that fell out of the police department, we could be in big trouble," another person beside Dong Ge interjected.
One of them was another big brother who was on par with Dong Ge, known on the streets as Hu Ge. Naturally, he was also interested in what Lin Yuan had in his hands. However, before anything else, the two of them had to probe for information.
To be honest, it was quite a strange situation. They had been caught hiding something, and that item ended up behind the police station's back wall; it only took a few digs to uncover it. Lin Yuan spoke of this with a hint of pride in his tone.
"Are you saying those fools buried the item at the police station?" Dong Ge's expression darkened at this revelation. It was bad enough that it had been dug up by someone else; he had heard that batch of goods was top-notch. If it hadn’t been for the fact that those items didn’t belong to their line, he might have considered taking them himself. The audacity to hide it right next to the police station was astonishing.
Hu Ge remained silent, recognizing that sometimes things could be hidden in plain sight. However, the police dogs weren’t just for show; given enough time, they would surely discover it.
"Yes, at that time I just followed them blindly. After all, the cops have been cracking down hard lately. If I hadn’t received news from several big brothers, I wouldn’t have come all the way here," Lin Yuan argued convincingly, making it hard for anyone to doubt him.
But at that moment, Dong Ge suddenly had an idea. He fixed his gaze on Lin Yuan and asked, "Where is the item now?"
"Ah, if I tell you before we discuss the price, my life might not be worth much here," Lin Yuan hesitated as he glanced at a few people in the private room.
However, Hu Ge quickly shifted the conversation: "We can’t wait around for you forever. I’ll send two brothers with you to retrieve the item. As soon as we see it, the money will be transferred immediately."
Faced with such an ultimatum, Lin Yuan pretended to struggle for a moment but eventually nodded in agreement. Then he acted as if he didn’t notice the malice in the eyes of the two men and left the private room with Dong Ge and Hu Ge following behind him. If he tried any tricks on the way, there would be no chance of him returning.
